what do you take?

It is very clear that I need something. I do NOT like to take meds, not even Tylenol, but cannot wait any longer. Things are bad for me inside, and I have no help from my husband.

My LO is almost 21 months and still BFing. He is not ready to wean.

I have a doctors appt at 145 today - with my OB/Gyn and I trust them, so I feel confident they will give me something safe. Just would like to hear any BFing and antidepressant experiences you other mamas may have.

I took Zoloft through pregnancy and breastfeeding my youngest. She is fine and my OB said it was okay to take as well

Get on Effexor!!!! I have had post partum depression twice, and it's works the best for me and fine when you are BF. The generic name is Venlafaxine. It CHANGED my life, and how I bonded with my baby (for the better )

Here is some info from Kellymom on antidepressants and breastfeeding. When I knew it was time to go on meds after DS1 was born, I took this info into my doctor, he looked over the list and the medications, and decided that Paxil would be the best choice for me. I will say though, that it was HORRIBLE weaning off the Paxil, but while I was on the medication, it worked really well for me. I would take the info page from Kellymom in to your doctor, and discuss the options with your doc to come up with the best medication choice for you.

I am on Zoloft(150mg/day) and have been for several years, including through two pregnancies. I am currently nursing my newbie and things are going great! I feel great, too! Good luck, mama! I know it's hard, but so worth it(the meds), IMO.

You can call Infant Risk if you want (Dr. Hale's hotline), or have your doc call. The recommendations will probably be different based on the age of your nursling. Some things that may not be as safe for a small infant may be fine with an older nursling because their metabolism is different. Your doc may not know about this, but Infant Risk will. Also, if you are only nursing say twice per day, they may advise you that you should take the med right after nursing so that the levels are down by the next time you nurse. Things like that.

I take a high dose of Citalopram for PPD and I have been BFing my Bug the whole time. It hasn't effected her at all. My doctor told me that there can be side effects, but they're very rare. Talk to your doctor and do your own research. I would recommend taking something to help you. It's miserable feeling that way. I completely understand where you're at

I have taken Lexapro and Zoloft while nursing. I 100% prefer Zoloft.

I am a nurse and aware of the specific meds and side effects. I was mostly looking to hear personal experiences. I have OCD and anxiety and have been on meds in the past, years ago, but never while pregnant or nursing. My doc referred me back to a psych, who put me back on Zoloft.

ETA: I don't have PPD.
