My Daughter The Picky Eater NEEDS more FIBER -- Suggestions?

Hey! My daughter is 21 months and has a VERY difficult time with bowel movements. She still doesn't really like or appreciate or want food all that much and is all about milk. (We give her organic soy in hopes of helping her bowel movements somewhat -- cow's milk was making things even more difficult.) When she does eat about all she'll even try are yogurt, apples, cheese, ham, rice, noddles, eggs and other carbs. Oh, and ugh, french fries. I can't think of any veggies she'll eat, and as far as fruit bananas and apples are all she'll touch. She has a serious fiber deficiency. She refuses to be spoon fed anything. She refuses to drink juice. What are some food I can try to get her to eat that will help? Thanks!

try making spinach balls (like meatballs but, duh, with spinach). My DD loves to dip them and eat them. The recipe I use has spinach, bread crumbs and a little cheese. I use my own bread crumb from high fiber breads.

We also sneak pureed veggies into her yogurt.

Serve high fiber noodles and rice.

Ask her ped about using a fiber supplement and see if it would be o.k.. Fibersure has an oderless tasteless powder that can be put in food and drinks.
Also, have you asked your ped in general what you should do? There may be a fiber rx prescription that can be given.
Another option is mineral oil. Start with a tablespoon of mineral oil (must say intestinal lubercant on it) and mix into food.

Have you tried giving her mandrian oranges? My dd loves them. Rice, smoothes made with fresh fruit, veggies with a tiny amount of melted cheese, grilled cheese?

Apples are actually full of fiber when eaten in quantity. Maybe you could add wheat germ (if no allergies) to her yogurt. Drinking lots of water will help too. I agree w/pp to ask the doc. about supplements.

We've had good luck with pears, mango, raisins and prunes.

Also, I saw some 'fiber bears' (like gummi bear vitamins) at our whole foods yesterday--maybe that would help?

I'd second the raisins and prunes. My dd also likes dried apples and mango from trader joes. Maybe yougurt covered raisins? I guess cooked carrot coins and lima beans she probably wouldn't like. My dd loves cooked beans and lentils....

Also, but Barilla Plus or other pasta with added protein and fiber.
