Early testing

So, is anyone planning to do any of the genetic testing offered? I always say no then wonder if we should. WE don't have any history in our families or children to be worried but I am never really happy with my decision until the ultra sound and then even more so when the baby is born!

I've always had the triple/quad screen done because my first 2 children's father is adopted and we had no health history. I probably will with this baby too, just because.

I do, I would rather be prepared than anything else, plus it is another chance to peek at baby. I'll announce on facebook after that appt (October 4th)

No, I don't. I already worry enough that I don't need something else to worry about. It is what it is and the test won't change anything.

Re: Early testing

I don't do any extra testing.. mainly because if there were something wrong with my baby, I would carry him/her to term anyway. I did have some issues with my 3rd pregnancy, and had an additional US done, I wouldn't go so far as extra blood work or amnio though.

This was us too. With DS he had certain markers in the anatomy scan, so we had to go in for a level 2 u/s...They(I had to go to a different hospital for the level 2) wanted to do more testing and we refused. It was what it was and no amount of testing was going to change it.

Re: Early testing

Are you talking about the Alpha FetoProtein test?

I don't plan to get that done. Im not sure if they require it when you are 35 though?

Re: Early testing

They asked if we wanted it, but we refused. Like a PP said, the outcome wouldn't change our minds about keeping the baby. I'd be afraid that if there was a positive of some sort that it would just cause more worry for me.

I am small town, so I had to go to a Milwaukee hospital for a level 2 scan. It was stressful, and honestly I am not sure why I even did it. When I was about 25 weeks along, they thought my son had Tri 13, and didn't do any further u/s until I was almost 38 weeks. I could have waited, I was mentally prepared (as much as one can be) by that time. It was horrible, yet I still got my healthy baby. Honestly, I would not have loved him less had he had Tri 13.

Re: Early testing

We do the Nuchal Translucency test and that's it. If it comes up positive, I won't abort or do an adoption so its nice to be prepared.
