DS fed himself some puffs this afternoon! He has never fed himself using the pincer grasp before, despite offering him smaller finger foods! I'm very excited about this! Hoping he can participate in Thanksgiving!

So to update my last post above- Caden is doing really well with puffs- almost too well- now he won't eat his purees unless he has puffs on his tray...

I am trying to get him to eat real food along with his purees. I've boiled some pears & mixed veggies to soften them up. Hopefully he eats them this afternoon.

I'm looking for other easy ideas & soft goods to offer him. Any suggestions?

Re: BLW mamas- Need some help here

DD went through a mini phase where she wasn't eating anything other than cheerios or puffs...... sooo frustrating!

She loves rice cooked in chicken broth (you can mix some pureed or soft cooked veggies with it)... pancakes, green beans, toast with hummus (this is a HIT), oatmeal, chicken nuggets (I cut them in small pieces about the size of a puff, works wonders!) and just about anything that isn't too salty, or full of sugar...

My DD isn't fond of fresh fruits... makes no sense.... anything juicy and squishy is gag central for us... I don't get it! lol

Yes. Ds tried a small piece of soft pear, coated with rice cereal (thought it was a texture thing) he gagged on it too. I don't get it. Maybe I will try toast with purée on top.

Hmm so maybe it is just the age & a phase. He used to eat purees just fine. Mmmmmm.... He would say. Then I introduced puffs to get him to start feeding himself some & now i wish I hadn't.

Oh well. I'll just keep offering the good stuff & maybe put the puffs away.

Does your DD feed herself the rice, pancakes etc?? How do you serve it? On a plate/bowl or on the highchair tray??

Re: BLW mamas- Need some help here

I place everything on the highchair tray (plates and bowls will get thrown, with food in them.. so thats a no go, )

She tries to feed herself the rice, and I let her.. but I will also feed her the rice in between. The pancakes she feeds herself (it was one of the first things she loved!) I will either cut them up in 'puff' size pieces or I'll just make her a tiny pancake or two (about the size of the palm of her hand) and let her have at it. Sometimes she does a good job of taking smaller bites, but a lot of the time, she shoves the whole thing in there so if its one of those days, I'll just chop them up!

Update: Caden is feeding himself now since he refuses to eat from a spoon. We've gotten him to eat toast, cheerios, grilled cheese, & freeze dried fruit. I try to get him to eat fresh fruit & veggies but he won't. He doesn't seem to like wet or slimy textures. He will poke them but not pick them up. Is this normal for a 10month old?
