Ready or not?

So running naked around our house is not unusual. In the last few weeks I've noticed I've been cleaning up fewer messes and within the last few days, no messes. Naturally I saw this as a sign Ayla might be ready to pl, so I offered the potty and many reminders through out the day. Well, instead of hopping in the bandwagon Ayla has learned to hold in her pee/poo until I put a diaper on then it's three changes in ten minutes as she floods, poops, then floods again. So, is this a sign she is not ready or should I shoulder through this and keep her naked? I'm just getting concerned she may get constipated and that's no fun for anyone.

Re: Ready or not?

Hmm...what if you just keep her in a fitted (or something easy to get on and off) and continue giving her potty opportunities throughout the day. That way, she's not stuck holding it, but if she has chances to go on the potty, she might.
Is she pretty comfortable sitting on the potty? I read in one book (I think Happiest Toddler on the Block) that some toddlers feel like diapers are their safe place to go potty...he suggested spending time doing fun things like reading books, singing songs, etc. while your child sits on the potty (even with their diaper on)...and trying to take the focus off of actually going potty, so that they get comfortable with the potty being a safe place.
Good luck!

Re: Ready or not?

It's a sign that she's physically ready to PL, but she has somehow gotten the idea that the right place to put her pee and poop is in a diaper. You need to push the potty more, IMO. Here's what I would do: go through some photo albums and videos of her as a baby and talk about how much she's changed and grown. Explain that when she was a baby, it was ok to pee and poop in her diaper because she couldn't sit/walk/talk. Now she's a big girl and can do all kinds of things (list her favorite accomplishments) and needs to start putting her pee and poop in the potty when she can. Then build time in your daily schedule to the potty together in the mornings after waking up and after meals.
