Re: Baby fell off the bed.

We did mattress on the floor last time but it's too hard to move this time now that we have an underbed with drawers. So, he goes in the pack n play if I am not right there. I always make sure to put something in the pack and play with my scent on it, seems to help a great deal. Also we have a little pack n play mattress which is illegal I'm sure but he loves it. And the soft sides.

I hope you find something that works for you!

I was not very comfortable with leaving my girl, so I pushed the crib issue and we did a partial co-sleeping thing with a switch when she woke.

Re: Baby fell off the bed.

I didn't read all replies but we have a mattress on the floor in our room and she sleeps on that till we go to bed then I bring her into bed with us. Our bed is NOT on the floor. Or you could just put your whole mattress on the floor if you want to keep co -sleeping and don't have room to put a 2nd mattress on the floor.

Re: Baby fell off the bed.

This is coming up for us as well. Ds is fine when we're in bed, but if he wakes when we're not, he literally races for the edge...even half asleep.
Now, for naps, he just sleeps on a thin, folded comforter on the floor if I decide not to nap with him.
We just picked up a memory foam mattresses to begin transitioning him to a floor bed if/when he's ready.
We'll probably put it next to our bed to start until he no longer nurses at night.

If not for this, we would just put our mattress on the floor also. Its not worth giving up co sleeping for us, and we don't want to use a crib either.

Re: Baby fell off the bed.

I started going to bed early and reading books! I had no idea how tired I was. You could also put a crib mattress on either side of the bed in case the baby falls. I really couldn't imagine that I could get into bed that early, but I would end up reading until 9:30 or 10 and falling asleep. My dh started putting our older dd to sleep and dealing with her needs so that our co-sleeping baby would be safe.

Re: Baby fell off the bed.

we put our baby in the crib when he initially falls asleep for the night (around 7:30pm). he sleeps in there for about 3-4 hours and after that, if he cries i go get him and he usually sleeps the rest of the night in our bed. i am still trying to just gradually give him more crib time because i don't think it's that safe for him in our bed. he's 9 months old now.

good luck mama

My DD sleeps on a futon mattress on the floor right next to my pillow top mattress.

Re: Baby fell off the bed.

There are a few solutions
-keep your baby asleep or awake wherever you are until you are ready for bed. We do this. They just end up going to bed later and sleeping in later, which isn't a problem for us. If they conk out early, I lay them on the floor of the living room on a blanket until I'm ready to got to bed, then take them with me.
-mattress on the floor
-pillow barricade with or without a baby monitor
-push the bed to the wall and put a side-carred crib on the other side

No matter what start teaching how to get off of the bed, couch, etc. feet first. SUCH a useful skill. DD2 figured it out after being shown only a few times at around 8 months old.

I kinda had to come to terms with the fact that babies roll off of things sometimes and while I do my best to prevent it, I don't freak out if I can't.
