Appropriate Show and Tell Item??

This seems like a silly question, but DS has show and tell coming up soon and wants to take his monkey that grandma made him for Christmas. It is a cute monkey and a great item for show and tell because his grandma made it. The problem is, my sister helped him name it at Christmas and his name is "Farts". I didn't say no and that is what the monkey has gone by since DS got it. DS did give his aunt soap for scented "Monkey Farts" so that is what started it all. Anyway, DS goes to a church based preschool and I wanted some opinions as to whether it would be offensive to some for him to take this item for Show and Tell.

Does it actually sound like "farts" when he says it? Many preschoolers can't really say the /r/ sound correctly. If that is the case for him, then no one will really be able to understand the real name anyway.

I am pretty sure they hear that word on a daily basis. It might not be "nice" but it's not offensive. If someone there is offended by a little boy saying the word "farts" then they are in the wrong profession! lol

Most have heard the word before, but I would maybe ask the teacher ahead of time or go over not saying the name to the class with your DS. I know that the preschoolers that I have worked with would definately think it's hilarious and be a little stirred up by it. The teacher may not want to deal with how ever many preschoolers giggling and carrying on about farts the rest of the day IMO.

If I were the teacher, I wouldn't be excited about my class going around saying farts after the show and tell period as I would have to address it and it would be awkward with what had happened prior- trying to not offend your son.

He speaks very clearly and you can definitely tell it's name is "Farts". I don't think telling DS he can't say his monkey's name seem fair to him. I think I will address the question to his teachers before his turn. I figured it would be that way but wanted an idea of what to think before going to them. Thanks.

I think it's fine, but your idea sounds reasonable.

I personally wouldn't worry about it but I can understand your concern. It isn't as though he is taking his stuffed monkey up there that's named "Sh!t head" or "Turds." I think 'Farts' is harmless and kind of funny and cute!

It would not be ok at the school DD goes to. I'd steer him toward something else.
