Who is having a doula? And what does DH think about it?

Re: doula
I had a doula with my first, not sure if I'll have one for this baby. She was excellent and definitely worth the money. She was great support, before, during and after the birth of my son. DH was totally fine with it. He knew I had some issues and knew it would help to have someone i could trust, basically tell him how to help me out. DH is very very understanding when it comes to these things, so he usually goes along with anything if he knows it's important to me. It's looking this time we'll be having a repeat c-section so I don't think I'll use a doula, but I'd definitely recommend them to anyone.

Re: doula
I kind-of am, I guess. It's my mom.
She'a had all 5 of us natural and have assisted w/ all my sisters' natural births and my VBAC, so I totally plan on her being there with DH and I again. She is awesome.

I am really on the fence. We are having a home birth and have 2 midwives plus my DH and my sister will be there for support. There is a doula in training and she said she could do it for $150 which is GREAT! I just am not sure I need another support person there?

Re: doula
I am, and DH loves the idea. He is not good in the delivery room, and he wants someone else there as much as I do.

Re: doula
I HIGHLY recommend a doula if you can do it. Our midwives even said if they could require it for first time parents, they would. Our doula saved us from having a medicated hospital birth (DS's head was in a weird position, and she figured out what was going on and helped us move his head up and back in)

Re: doula
I am! Just met with our likely choice today, like her a lot. Hubby wouldn't chose it himself but is all about whatever is going to make things better for me. I have a sneaking suspicion that he will be singing her praises after our LO is here.

Re: doula
Me, me, me!!! I'm super excited about her. DH is happy, but I 2nd what Gumbelina said- "he'll be singing her praises after our LO is here!"
He's not anti-doula, by any means, but considering all of this is new for both of us, even though we have two children (both unnecessareans) we don't know what we're doing. So, I told it would mean more help for him, make it so he could go to the bathroom, maybe run down and get some food or Starbucks- or even just send her if need be. And he has a bit of a temper, esp. if I'm in pain and he is helpless, so i'm hoping this will keep him calmer and help to have the go-between, as well.
