Re: Inappropriate place to NIP?

I nurse pretty much *anywhere* I am & they're hungry! I'm *very* discreet & DO NOT use a cover over their faces (once they're past the nb stage & don't need so much help w/ latch)

Over the years I've bf'ed:
*in most of the restaurants in town
*church (it seems that everytime we're there, ds is starving!)
*in the mall
*in WalMart (just a couple weeks ago!)
*dr's office (waiting room & in the exam room)
*At softball practice Tuesday night (and I'm sure he'll get fed there a LOT as I have 2 playing in different leagues & they each have 2 games a week through June!)
*at my IL's (NONE of them nursed, or were nursed...was VERY uncomfortable w/ it 11 years ago w/ oldest dd, not anymore!)
*At odd's volleyball game last week
*bowling alley
*movie theatre (they all were ok as babies b/c I could just pop in a boob!)

Basically, I don't really think there is an *inappropriate* place to nip. There's nothing to be ashamed of, it's why you have them! If your baby's hungry, then feed them...they don't understand all the stigma & hype of our uneducated, closed-minded society.

Go for it, mama. I do, however, understand the hurt feelings from your dh...mine is very supportive, but my 11 yo dd wasn't when it came time for her b-day slumber party..."you're not going to nurse him in front of my friends, are you?"

And for the record, I don't believe in using a blanket or other cover, either. I personally see NOTHING discreet about it. A cover just SCREAMS "look at me, I'm nursing a baby!" Most people in public (other than other moms) never know I am NIP.

Just tell him your DC needed to make a withdrawl from the milk bank.

Oh gosh. Now you know it is late and I need to go to bed.......

**thread hijack**
whatever works for the mama, but I will say that I disagree with you about the nursing cover... not about whether or not to wear it, but whether or not it screams. no one ever even looks twice at me!

To me discrete is not flashing the nipple for the world to see. I would never advocate covering the baby's head or anything like that. I didn't mean it to come out badly at all!!!!

I'd be curious to see what he says.

that is really funny, I would love to see you in the middle of an aisle.
I think that you should be able to NIP wherever...

I wish I could NIP more, but like some of the other posters, my first dd nursed discretely, kind of under my shirt but my other dd is a different story. DD#2 screams however if she is even slightly covered and she needs both of my breasts completely out there and exposed as she like to go back and forth and look around...so since I pretty well have to remove my shirt, the car works better for us

Re: Inappropriate place to NIP?

I will nurse anywhere and everywhere, and I take no pains to be discreet about it. I don't feel the need.

I would have reamed my hubby a new one if he told me to go to the car to nurse.

Re: Inappropriate place to NIP?

I nurse my 19 months old anywhere she asks for it, and no I DON'T Cover up, I live in TX, it's too hot and DD doesn't like it, plus those blankets & shawls just scream "LOOK AT ME, I'M BREASTFEEDING!"

My DH would never say anything to me about NIP, he got his rear chewed once for telling me to be discreet when we went to his nana's for X-mas (great thing was SHE chewed him too when I told her )

ETA: I NIP several times today while in court today for child support (yes in front of the judge too- and HE gave me a big o pat on the back for extended BFing & NIP)
