Listeria Outbreak?

Anyone here heard or read about this? First there was the cantaloupe and now there is the bagged romaine lettuce. Its making me nervous to eat any produce. Maybe I should start going to the farmers market exclusively.

Of course while we are pregnant there has to be a Listeria outbreak. Its so terrible for all the people who have died.

Ya, the listeria from cantelope origiinated not to far from my house/city I had just bought a huge one from the farmers market but still threw it away youjust never know. It is freaking me out but I haven't consumed anything that had it. Did you know it can take up to 2 months to show symptoms? This freaks me out b/c the kids were eating a ton of cantelope before the warning and i have no idea where it came from!!

I don't care for cantaloupe, but DH and DS chowed down on it all summer long. They all came from farmer's markets (although I *know* some of the vendors get their produce from other states), so hopefully we're in the clear.

We don't buy packaged lettuce either, I've found some chopped romaine are sprayed with chlorine to kill listeria. Listeria is usually found on ready to eat meat and veggie products and we would rather just buy fresh anyways. Didn't hear about the cantaloupe though, I usually eat a lot of it but this summer we only got one or two.

Yeah I was freaking about the cantaloupe too because I did eat some early in pregnancy and the incubation period is two months! I don't eat packaged lettuce but it just makes me wonder what produce is next?

It is scary. We live in Arkansas which just had its first Listeria from cantaloupe confirmed illness yesterday.

Re: Listeria Outbreak?

I am worried! We were in Colorado last weekend and I ate cantaloupe without even thinking. I ate 4 or 5 pieces before remembering about the outbreak. I'm sick this week which concerns me a bit but both kids were sick too and neither one of them had any of the cantaloupe so I'm guessing I got whatever they had, hopefully lol.

Thankfully this didn't happen with my second pregnancy..... I could eat an entire freaking cantaloupe in one sitting I craved it like crazy.
