How to wean??

I am going to the doc soon to ask, but was hoping to get advice from you all! I give my son solids already. Three times a day and he nurses 4-5 times a day. How do I start to wean him? He loves his boobie!! he is almost a year!

When I weaned DD, I called the midwife for advice.

They said reduce the number of feedings by one per week.

So if you nurse 5x a day, next week drop to 4x a day. And the next week 3x and so on. That gives you and him time to slow it down, and helps to prevent you getting mastitis!

Just to be sure you know - it is okay to nurse beyond the first year. If the relationship works for both of you there is no reason to stop. But if you decide now is the time start by dropping off a session that he isn't too attached to, then move on to the more set ones.

I don't want to wean him completely! I'm not ready for that. I just wasn't sure how to reduce nursing sessions. I assume I give him food to replace the nursing session??

Not always, it depends on when it is. If its right before nap you might want to just offer a sippy/bottle of milk.

Babies nurse every 2ish hrs - they don't necessarily need to eat that often.
