Wool Questions
After cloth diapering for almost 9 months, I'm finally going to try wool. I'm crocheting my first pair of shorties and I have some questions about wool use in general.
Concerning Lanolizing: What brand do you like for lanolizing your wool? I see that there is the gel stuff to lanolize with but also a spray to use. Is the spray in addition to it or instead of the gel? Concerning Use: I know that wool doesn't really need to be washed very often unless it actually get poop on it. But how does it work with wet diapers? Every time the diaper is wet, do I need to use another wool shortie/longie until the first one is dry? Or does the lanolizing make this more like a PUL cover where I can continue to use it through the course of the day? Diapers: I use flats. Can I use a snappi underneath these? Or is there too much give with wool and pins are needed when using a flat underneath? I appreciate any other helpful hints or suggestions you might have. Thank you so much!

Re: Wool Questions
Some good liquid lanolins that you don't need to melt are Disana or Imse Vimse or you could melt Lansinoh in hot water. The spray lanolin is only to refresh you wool between lanolin baths. You'll need 1 or 2 good soaks to get enough on your wool to become waterproof.
Yes, you do need to rotate covers to let them air dry between uses, and I always use a Snappi on my flats under wool. So nice to see another flats and wool Mama!

Re: Wool Questions
Thanks, MomBecks!
So the 1 or 2 good soaks would be like letting it soak overnight right? Would I have to dry it before soaking it the second time? Or soak it over night, ring out good, then soak over night again in a new lanolin bath? Okay so if we go out for the day I still need to take an extra pair of shorties/longies with us in addition to a diaper or two? That's good to know. And it does make sense, I just wasn't sure. I always carry and extra PUL cover with me just in case so I guess I would want to anyway just in case. Yay on being able to use a Snappi on the flats under wool. I'm a HUGE flats fan. That's all we use and I love them!

Re: Wool Questions
Is it necessary to get something like the Imse Vimse wool shampoo to wash the shorties when needed in between lanolin baths?

Re: Wool Questions
You only need to soak for about 1/2 hour really. Then, let it dry and test it to see if you need more lanolin. You might be OK without the second.
And you can just use baby wash instead of wool wash, but I prefer an actuall wool wash. It seems to get wool cleaner and keep it softer because it has lanolin in it, but I know mamas who use baby wash and like it. Just don't use Woolite!

Re: Wool Questions
Thanks again, all good to know! I feel like I did when I was first looking into cloth diapering - a bit overwhelmed and really hoping I end up liking wool!

Re: Wool Questions
I was scared of the whole lanolizing thing but there's really nothing to it. I use Alioop's wool wash cubes. It's like a liquid wash (that has lanolin + soap) but it's dry. So you don't pay for shipping the water content of the wash. You just have to dissolve the cubes. You can get it in all kinds of scents. (But that's kind of overwhelming--or at least it was to me when CDing and my DD were both new!)
On most days I can rotate between two wool covers and be fine. But you probably want a third in case one gets stained or you are washing/lanolizing the others. So, yeah, we use wool covers but I have wondered the same with the shorties/longies, too! Lately I've been trying to change DD's dipe before the wool gets damp. I read a good tip to use a hemp (or other) doubler on the OUTSIDE of the dipe (between dipe and cover). This works well for keeping the wool relatively dry during the day. But this wouldn't work with shorties/longies. And also you woud ostensibly need two pairs of longies that both go with the same top--or do you have to change LO's whole outfit? LOL. These are the practical things with longies I can't wrap my head around.

Re: Wool Questions
Well I finished my first pair of shorties. It's not lanolized yet but I put it on DD to see how it fit. It actually did fit but I don't like how her legs and the color of her diaper showed through the stitching. I'm actually pretty bummed about that. It was using HDC but I used the Dragon Fly pattern from Ladybugz. I guess maybe I need to do a SC pattern? But for the time I invested into this pair of shorties I feel like cutting my losses now.
Is this how they usually fit?
