Mirena?

Do any of you have or have had experience with the iud Mirena? I used to take the pill but I like the fact that Mirena is localized hormones & that when we want to have our 2nd baby we won't have to wait. I'm just curious to know if anyones experienced side effects bc of the iud. Likes/dislikes? Thanks!!!

Re: Mirena?

I've had two over 8 years and it was the bet bc I've ever used. I can't use pills or implanon or the nova ring because hormones jack me up. Mirena has no affect on me at all. I'd use it again but I have so many fibroids my ob wanted an anesthesiologist present at insertion. I'm not up for anything my ob thinks will cause that much pain. Try it, I think you'll be very happy with it.

Re: Mirena?

I had one for 2 years and I hated it. As far as bc it works.I know for a lot of people they can stop periods, but for others like me my period was all over the place.15 days to 45 days and anywhere in between- the whole 2 years I had it. With spotting often in between. Not once did I have a regular cycle and it took 3 cycles after removal to return to normal. It effected my mood in a very bad way and made my emotional pms symptoms much worse. I was a raging shrew- like almost violent (that is so far away from who I usually am). I only started thinking it might be from the Mirena near the end, we were planning on having another kid. So I started looking online and found lots of chats where people were having the same problems. I still thought it was just the blame game. Until i had it removed. With in 30 mins a felt happy and so much better. The only time those crazy emotion symptoms came back was during pregnancy. I don't recommend the Mirena to anyone.

I know people who love theirs and have never had a problem (which is why I got mine), and since removing mine I have met people who have had the same issues I did. Some people it works great for, but you couldn't pay me to get another one.

Re: Mirena?

Hated it, hormones were worse than when I was on the pill. Got it removed after 3 months. I was angry, no patience, and wanted to literally hurt people. Thankfully I realized the problem before anything happened, and those feelings went away shortly after removal. My friend had one placed the same week and had identical issues, and had her's removed as well.
It also decreased my milk supply (at 5m post partum so I had a good supply). I also had no s3x drive.

Like pp said, for some people it's perfect. For others it's living h3ll.

Re: Mirena?

I've had mine now for almost a year. I had to get the first one removed and a second put in because it wasn't put in right the first time. Sometimes I get bad cramps but overall I really like it. I haven't slowed my period yet but the pill really messes with me and this doesn't. I sometimes get cyst which sucks but it''s okay....

EDIT: I also have REALLY irregular periods... and my last one lasted about 3 months. It wasn't heavy, just enough to really irritate me. I keep waiting for it to go away or fix itself so far no luck...

I just had mine removed because I was having 12 day long periods and they were only like 25-26 days apart. I did spot for 3 months after it was inserted as well. If it wasn't for that I probably would have loved it. It didn't effect my mood at all like the pill can and no other side effects. I thought that it was preventing me from losing weight because I was working my butt off with no luck, but it's been out for 5 weeks and still no luck with that.

Geesh that is a lot of negative feedback. I'm already having trouble with my milk supply as it is so I dont want that negative impact. And I DEFINITELY don't want excessive bleeding and mood swings. Grrr I was hoping this would be a good thing. My mom died of breast cancer when I was young so I am trying to avoid taking in more estrogen if I can avoid it. Thanks for all the feedback ladies. I appreciate it.
