Whole amount on hold??

You guys should know this...I bought some movies last week and when I received them one was wrong in the case. Let the seller know and she issued a partial refund...totally pleased with the transaction. BUT, now the whole amount of the transaction is on hold in my Paypal! It cleared my bank account more than a week ago...why would MY money be on hold??! And when can I expect it to clear?

When you pay with a bank funded source PP often puts a hold on the refund and it just takes time. Yes it's annoying for sure, but it's common.

Edit to add... if you have funds in your PP account when the refund comes through, it often puts a hold on the whole purchase amount too. I've had this happen many times and researched it.. Not sure WHY but it's frustrating. In my experience it takes a few days to clear.

Re: Whole amount on hold??

that's super obnoxious...the money in there was for a purchase that I need to ship tomorrow and I really don't want the money to come out of my bank account when I HAVE money in my paypal...but with a whopping $.11 in there I guess I have no choice. It just doesn't make sense...shouldn't the SELLER's funds be on hold??! Why should I be penalized?!

Re: Whole amount on hold??

I know mama, I'm sorry... it's happened to me a lot and it's SUPER annoying! I have no idea why it happens that way but I looked into it and it does seem common... if you pay initially with PP funds, it seems the refund is instant - but if you paid initially with another source (although the payment does happen "instantly"), if you get a refund, even on say $1 of the amount, the entire purchase price is put on "temporary hold". If you don't have any funds IN your PP account then, you don't get a negative balance or anything, but if you DO have PP funds, the whole amount temporarily vanishes until the refund goes through

You can google "temporary hold Paypal refund" and find lots of info (and people complaining) about it. It's a total bummer, I know!

Re: Whole amount on hold??

Someone has talked about something similar on here before. I think other people told her to call PP and they might be able to take the hold off sooner
