Diaper Swappers

DH and I have a babysitter for our big kids but have to take the baby with us on our dinner date. He's ebf, I don't have any pumped milk, and he won't stay with anyone but me. I'm talking screaming and crying hysterically until he's in my arms again. Anyway, I plan to nurse him just before we go in. My theory is if you nurse then have a glass of wine and not have to nurse until 2 hours later it's totally fine. I'll also be eating a large meal and will be drinking lots of water in between. It's likely that I'll have to nurse him again before we leave. I really could care less what people think. We live in Portland, OR so a pretty crunchy and bf friendly place so I don't think people will be phased by seeing me nip. I just wonder if they would be aghast if they saw me nursing after having a glass of wine. Would you have a glass and enjoy the night or just skip it? I don't feel like I have to have it and I would still enjoy my time just the same, but a glass with dinner usually adds that special touch. I gotta feel like a grown up SOMETIME!!

I would definitely have a glass of wine. You can nurse right away. The amount in your milk would be tiny with one glass. Enjoy yourself you have been working so hard

LoL I say have a glass of wine, nurse the baby, put him to sleep (WOOOHOO!) then go out for the evening!
Honestly that's what I did for my daughters birthday (dinner and a movie). I had a beer about an hour before we were to leave, nursed DS (he fell asleep), had dinner and a movie and came home (m-i-l watched him) to a still sleeping baby (3-4hrs +/-).

I would! Your child is not a newborn and very little gets into the milk anyway.

Yes.In European cultures it is not even an issue.I was told to drink beer while pregnant and pumping (to help with the ms).

I sat in a restaurant last night drinking a Sangria WHILE nursing my 5 week old. I'm pretty liberal (and well read, before anyone starts telling me how horrible I am) about these things. Go for it mama - from your posts lately, you need it. Do it for your sanity - feeling like a grownup for one night might be just what you need.

I don't drink alcohol, but from all the reading I've done, if I did drink, I would have no qualms about having a glass of wine or beer while breastfeeding.

LOL go for it! I totally had a WWYD Primetime moment when I went for a GNO dinner w/ DD and nursed her while I ordered and began to drink my beer

No one gave a second look or said anything (to me) and I live in a VERY noncrunchy area.

I have drank a glass of wine or bottle of beer while nursing, lol. It's really not a problem. There's only so much alcohol that is going to make it to the milk, and the baby isn't getting THAT much anyway.
