Carseat question

So I just now am getting around to installing the carseat for dd. It's R's old Graco Safeseat. Right now he is in a Frontier 85 behind the passanger seat. Originally I was going to put dd behind the drivers side, but after reading the manual a bit more I found that the seatbelt would have to use the locking clip WITHOUT the base. I want to use the base. SO I put it in the middle, which is the "safest" place anyways. And it fits, but I notice it is a bit... ehh... uneven? Like it's in there correctly, right angle and does not move around... but it kinda goes out of the middle position a little bit into the space behind the drivers side. Does that make sense? And is that ok?

Here are a couple pictures so you might be able to get an idea of what I'm talking about...

Re: Carseat question

I'm not a carseat expert, but personally I'd err on the side of caution. Does the middle seat have a hump or something?

I know there are a lot of places you can go to get it checked out... maybe call a local fire station? They might have suggestions.

Good luck!!

Re: Carseat question

No it's just pushed over to the side a bit because of how big the seat is, coupled with how big my sons seat is. (Graco safeseat + Britax Frontier 85)

It doesn't move around at all, so I know it's in there tightly.

Why do you have to use a locking clip? What year model of vehicle do you have?

Is it the seatbelt that is causing it to lift on one side?

Re: Carseat question

There's absolutely no reason that you would not be able to use the base. The base has a built in lockoff, too, that makes it super easy to install, no locking clip needed.

Re: Carseat question

It's a 94 Honda Accord Wagon.

According to the manual the seatbelts on either side are called "Combination Lap/Shoulder Belt with Sliding Latch Plate" then it goes on to say... "This belt MUST be converted to prevent movement of the lap portion of the belt. You must use a locking clip (provided with the infant restraint) when using the infant restraint without the base unless your vehicle's seat belt can be converted in another way as described in your vehicle owner's manual."

So what does it mean it has to be converted?

Re: Carseat question

It just means it needs a locking clip to keep it locked. The SafeSeat has a built in lock off, so it's easy peasy. Also, even if you had a different seat without a built in lockoff, you can always just use a locking clip when installing the base--no need to use it baseless.

If your seatbelt doesn't lock at the retractor by pulling it all the way out then letting it back in slowly then normally you would need a locking clip.

With your seat though, as PP stated above, your seat base has a built in lock off. Just use that.

How is the frontier installed? Are you using a locking clip on it or are you using the LBP with no belt left. Just curious.

Re: Carseat question

Ok I guess I just misread it. There is a whole other section on installing with the base. I think I was just reading that IF you use it without the base, you need to use the clip. It says to NOT use the clip if you're using the base.

One other thing that kinda sucks though, is that since it can't go in the middle, it's going to be a TIGHT fit for the driver... I might put my son's ff seat behind the driver seat depending on how it fits. It's fine for me but Dbf is tall.
