Simple 1 year old birthday presents

My two daughters birthdays are coming up QUICK! They are already have alot of toys, so I'm looking for something creative to give new life to the toys they already have, or create something new with them. I'm kind of drawing a blank for my 1 year old. Any ideas would be appreciated!! Thanks!

We're thinking about buying some play silks. They can be used in all sorts of imaginative ways!

DS just turned one, and we turned our extra room into a playroom for him. We got him a Pottery Barn Anywhere Chair to put in there, but that's it. It's not his favorite room in the house We moved all his toys up there, and got some shelves from Target to store stuff in. I love it!

A shape sorter has been popular about that age here.
Dd1 and ds loved weebles at that age
Dd2 was all about a rocking horse at that age.

Re: Simple 1 year old birthday presents

Iggyloo, hi there!

I love your question because I am always thinking most kids have too many toys and I hate to go out and buy more when I know they will just add to the big pile of toys we already have.

For your 3yr old I would go out on a neighborhood walk and let her chose some large rocks to paint at home. I would ask her to pick out a special rock family and we can make up names for each of the rocks and play with them at home after they are dried. If you don't want to have the rocks painted you can give them a nice bath at home and then start creating the rock family stories. You could even print out the stories that your DD tells you and make it into a book.

Another idea is to get stuff out of the kitchen for them to play with (like a colander, the ladle, empty plastic bottles and plastic cups). My 3 yr old DD loves to take an empty bottle and we play roll the bottle.

For the 1 yr old, could you take a purse that you don't use or some other bag where she won't choke herself and let her put stuff in and take it out?

For my family the birthday is about a special experience and not having to go out to buy more toys. Last yr I let my girls take a special bath, they got to eat special food and when given free computer time (which I don't think is something that you want for your young girls just yet).

I am looking forward to hearing others' ideas on things to do w/o buying more stuff.

Best wishes and I hope your children have a wonderful birthday!

My kids always loved balls at that age. Different textures and sizes.
