Birth Control Free Mommies

Before marriage my hubby and I agreed we would do no hormonal BC and no IUDs to keep from getting pregnant. HOWEVER, I hadn't planned to start my period two weeks after stopping postpartum bleeding. Done that three times now. We have three under 3 1/2-years-old and in our 4 1/2 years of being married I have been pregnant 5 times now. Lost two last year. I got pregnant with one 2 months after our DD was born and then again when she was 4 months old. My body is having a hard time with being pregnant so much and having so many little ones that need my full attention is HARD! We want more children in the future, but NOT right now.

I know about taking temps but that doesn't work right now. Hubby won't wear condoms (it is more important to me that I don't get pregnant than to him), injectible foam gives me yeast, I am using the suppositories but I'm affraid that won't be affective.

Have any suggestions or having anything that worked for you?

What about a diaphram? I haven't used one but just a thought.

Another vote for diaphragm! I haven't personally used one, but that is what I would be doing (if DH wasn't planning a vasectomy). We are currently using condoms until the V. Condoms aren't a good long term plan for us because DH isn't a fan. I won't do any hormonal bc or anything that will stop anything that had already started (implantion prevention).

I don't know much about this.... do you insert it yourself or does your doctor?

I'm curious too- where do you get them? We're currently using condoms but I don't fully trust them.

I don't know for sure but it seems like the doctor checks your cervix for what size you need and then you insert right before it's needed. So you would get it from the doc, maybe?

Re: Birth Control Free Mommies

Okay, I looked into it some last night and some more this morning. Looks like the doctor checks you for the size you need, shows you how to insert it, and watches to make sure you know how to insert it and take it out. (that "watching" part might be a little weird). Anyway, I read that you insert it yourself before you have intercourse with spermicide. You need to wait 6 hours after the last time having intercourse to take it out. (if you have sex more than once you need to put more spermicide in). You are not supposed to leave it inside for more than 24 hours at a time. Sounds like this might be do able for us. My hubby didn't object so I think I'll ask my OB/GYN about this. Thanks to you that suggested it. I had heard of it but never looked into it because I thought it was another hormonal thing.

Oh, and it's just a cup thing that covers your cervix so sperm doesn't get into your uterus. Between the diaphragm and spermicide, I think that should help us do the trick of not getting pregnant again so quickly.
