Indigestion? Heartburn?

Can anyone describe what either of these feel like? My stomach is constantly churning and rumbling, whether I've just eaten or not. Sometimes I feel like I have reflux if I lay down too soon after eating. Normal?

Definately normal. From what I understand, when pregnant, the hormones cause the little flapper in your esophagus to relax and allow the stomach acids to come back up. Heart burn, to me, is a more burning sensation in my chest.

Would tums help? I never had this with either of my other pregnancies.

Yep! Tums would definitely help. I swore by those last pregnancy. This time around I needed them much sooner. Frequent small meals also help. So try not to eat a huge amount at one meal, rather just snack and have smaller meals.

I already do this. Mainly bc I feel nauseous if I eat a full meal. Thanks!

Re: Indigestion? Heartburn?

For me it's a no on tums. The main reason being that antacids only cover the symptoms and creates a bigger problem.

Besides that.... Tums is a category D drug, which means there's evidence of fetal risk but the risks outweigh the benefits.

Tums also destroys our body's first defense against harmful pathogens, because it neutralizes the acidity of our stomach. Making getting sick more likely to happen, as the tums is taking away some of our immune system.

PLEASE read this article!!

Aside from the apple cider vinegar, I find laying on my left side helps as well as a massage that my holistic practitioner showed me that is a miracle worker for this... Press into the area that's under your sternum, make sure you're not hitting any bone. Press in deeply, breath in deeply and as you blow the air out, push you fingers in and down and in and down to the sides. This is just a small movement, moving 1/4 - 1/2 in. When it was getting bad I'd stand against the wall and DH would do it for me and I would instantly feel better.
