I think I'll try the dawn and oxyclean soak. How much of each for a full load of dipes? And after they have a good soak should I do my regular wash routine but without the soap I usually use? |

Re: ?s on storing diapers
Not trying to hijack, but how long is "too long" to store them? I used a stash of 24 pocket diapers for a year with ds1, then stored them until shortly before ds3 was born (between 2 1/2 and 3 years). They were stored in a space bag under the crib.
When I pulled them out to potentially use for ds3, they ALL had shot elastic when they were done being washed...and they weren't like that when I stored them. Did I do something wrong? Or is that just too long to store?

That sounds like a nightmare. Did you repair them? Now I'm paranoid about my huge stash of BG AIOs!

Re: ?s on storing diapers
I have NO sewing no-how, so I just put them on FSOT for SUPER cheap and someone who knew how to fix them bought them for a mama in need.

Re: ?s on storing diapers
Oh no! I'm so sorry. Now I'm nervous. I'm actually bummed we haven't had more replies here. Come on Mamas......if you've stored dipes, let us know what worked and what didn't, please. I have no idea why all the elastics would snap after being stored at room temp. ???

Re: ?s on storing diapers
I am no expert- and not sure how to store this time either... but last time I was a total newbie, I had just switched to some cloth and boom, ds pl right away. So after just 6 months of part time use I washed and dried my 6 pockets and 6 aios and packed them into a rubbermaid bin in my basement. Then we tried to get pregnant for another 2.5 years after they were put away before finding out I could use them, I took them out right away (they were obviously not enough and too big at the time but I knew that I would get to use them again so I was stoked beyond measure!) and they were fine. I will say that my taste totally changed. I think pockets are fine for dh and such, as are the aios but I love fitteds now, and find prefolds and flats fun too- and also wool so not sure how I will pack this stuff and what is worth packing and what I should just sell and get new/new to me when and if God has another one in my future.
Also, you did not say what kind of diapers you are storing, and I do think that would make a difference in how to wash, strip, and store.

Re: ?s on storing diapers
I just want to say that I got a bunch of fitteds from a mama on here that had a few with shot elastic and bald spots. I got a refund for those, then after I washed and wore the rest, they now ALL have shot elastic and many are balding VERY quickly. Some were discolored but there was NO staining, so my best guess is that she used bleach on these before storing then sold them straight from storage. Moral of my story, be sure to rinse very very very well before storing and if you do store, wash periodically and then wash a couple times before selling if you go that route too.

Re: ?s on storing diapers
I stored dipes from early 2008 until early 2011. They were in a cardboard box that stayed in the top of a closet. It was mostly prefolds but there were a few BSWW and Thirsties covers and one lone BG 3.0. Everything was fine - I sold the covers because I just didn't like them anymore but the BG is still used all the time!
