Just wondering if you ladies bother getting checked internally for dilation/effacement or not? I know with MW's that is not always done

I'm 36w Friday, apt on Monday, will get GBS test too. Not sure if I want to bother being checked at this point as I haven't ever been dilated until at least 38/39 weeks.

I kinda wonder what's the point a lot of the time, unless you have a history of going early.

I did get checked last time, but it really doesn't tell you or the doctor anything if you are dialated. I have completely decided yet, but am leaning more toward not getting checked.

My MW doesn't check routinely. I was going to have her check tomorrow because there was a chance my husband might go out of town, but it doesn't look like he will need to now. I should skip the check, but I'm curious. We'll see if I can resist! It will probably be the only check I get, including labor, if I have it.

My doctor has started checking every week. (I'm 38 weeks along) I think he started at 36. Not really necessary, in my opinion, but I still like knowing for curiousity's sake.

My midwives offer to at the 36 week GBS test appt. I always have, just to see. I've always taken them up on it, and in both pregnancies, I've only been a fingertip dilated at that point (which is nice, b/c then they can confirm the baby is head down). They'll do an exam if you ask them at any appt. after that, but I never took any of them up on it. I can't really tell on my own, but even if I could, I wouldn't do it very often, if at all. I don't want to get hung up on a number.

I won't be this time. I was never checked with our last, not even in labor. It is actually quite nice looking back and not having that feeling of being "violated" in my memory. I despised it with the ob for my first two children and it was completely pointless. With my first I was 2-3 cm dilated and "going to have this baby this weekend" for 3 weeks. With my son I was nothing until the day I went into labor. Not being checked with Zoee took so much stress off of the final weeks, and has proven the same with Lucy.

I'm starting to think that I should just wait until 38 weeks. I know I waited until 37 last time, but I just don't really see the point with me.......

I was checked two weeks ago and again today. Every time i tell myself I don't want it to happen again because for some reason it hurts like heck to me. BUT every time I get curious and have her check me. At least this time i'm actually dialated and changing lol. last time nothing happen until I was induced. Two weeks ago (36w) I was 1cm 30%. Today I was 2cm 50%.

I have an apt tomorrow (35 weeks, 2 days) and I have no idea if she'll check me or not.
