I had to go to the health department to get a pregnancy verification and the nurse comes in and says congratulations you're pregnant! Um thanks I know isn't that why I'm here? Anyway, she then goes on with a list of questions - Nurse - Was this a planned pregnancy? Me - No and my husband told me I should have told her Um yes I got pregnant while fooling around with my husband! None of your business

I had to go to the health department this week also for a risk assesment and I found it very insulting that they asked if it was a planned pregnancy. I don't see how its any of their business.

When I had my first child I was asked where he was conceived. I was like, how is that your business and who cares?

My mw asked but I can see from her perspective where it would make a difference depending on the womans attitude.

Wouldn't a health center generally check for medical risk and ask questions to know what services to offer?

Hey, I got you one better. Not with this pregnancy, but with DD, I didn't have a GP at the time, so I went to the health unit, and they not only asked me if my pregnancy was planned (it wasn't), but asked me if I knew who the father was! Umm, yeah, the guy I've been with for the last 10 years? In fact we're pretty sure we conceived this baby on our 10 year anniversary. But how is that any business of yours?

When I went in they did the same questions. One set was pretty funny though.The first was how many sexual partners I've had in my life...1. The next- How many in the last 6 months...1. Next- How many in the past month...zero, I feel like crap! Next-So was this baby planned...yes. Next- So you know who the father is... Ummm, pretty darn sure. Seriously, why does it matter. Just because I have only had one "sexual partner" doesn't make me anymore "safe." What if he has had several? (and I know my DH hasn't, but it could and does happen). If they want to worry about testing for STDs just say "we want to test for STDs, do you want the tests?"
