Question elevated copper levels and BF

my friend has high levels of copper in her blood and she's lost previous babies from it. they have it under control for now and she is due pretty soon. she is told she cannot bf because of her copper levels. has anyone dealt with this?

I found this on Kellymom.com

"Copper

Per “Nutrition During Lactation” (Institute of Medicine, 1991), there is no relationship between maternal copper status and concentrations in human milk."

Here is the link (scroll down past the table/chart to find the quote above):

It seems like there is always a "reason" why moms are told they "can't" breastfeed....

Now, I don't know her entire situation, but if I were her, I'd get a second opinion or two. Just saying...

Agreed. MOST of the time to care provider telling you "it not safe" truly has NO idea if it is or isnt just easier to say it isnt to cover their butts

Its what we learn in the medical field... if in doubt, tell them its "dangerous", that way they've been "warned" Always a good idea to double check.

It really irritates me that so many times Mom is told to do what is best for the doctor (whether its his/her schedule, convenience or covering liability) and its not best for Mom or Baby... Grrrrr!
