Mastitis again :(
This is the third time in 7 months I have had mastitis
I never had it with my first baby. Anyone have any tips that worked for them to prevent future infections after having repeat infections? DS is exclusively BF and does nurse often, even at night (still every 3ish hours). My mom thinks it is because he only nurses on one side at each nursing, but I did that with my first baby without a problem. Any tips or thoughts would be appreciated.

Re: Mastitis again :(
Are you getting plugged ducts at all prior to the mastitis? I was the queen of plugged ducts with DS1, and ended up taking lecithin to help and it worked wonders. Otherwise I know I would have ended up with mastitis much more than the 2-3 times that I ended up with it.
Other than that, no real advice on preventing mastitis, just lots of hugs and hope you feel better quickly. The biggest help for me when I had it was to get into a super hot bath and manually express until all of the 'gunk' was out of the breast (I had thick yellow/greenish milk when I had mastitis). Then nurse baby and sleep until my fever broke. |
