Entertainment for my 2 year old?
I know there's another thread about this, but I can't find it right now.
I want to make some Montessori style activities for my 2.5 year old. What are your favorites that got used frequently? I'm looking for ideas that are easy to make (I'm somewhat challenged in this area, lol) and are very engaging - inexpensive is good too.

Re: Entertainment for my 2 year old?
Meg over at Sew Liberated has had some amazing ideas lately. There is also a flickr group called Things we do after nap.
Looks like loads of fun

Re: Entertainment for my 2 year old?
I second looking at Meg's blog.
I'm in the same boat, though I also have a 4 year old to keep busy too (when she can't join us). I just started really diving into solving this problem. I actually just blogged about our sensory tubs we made last week. Here's the link to my blog post. http://peasandcarrotsjenny.blogspot....nsory-tub.html The only thing we spent money on was the broiling pans (cheap) and rice. In the archives of my blog I also have posts on the texture play we've done in the past. I just basically give them a substance to experiment with. It was always free. A cookie sheet full of salt, a bread pan full of oats, polenta, flour, rice, pasta...ANYTHING. I always gave them a few scoopers and little bowls for transfering. We do Math U See and my two little ones love to think they do it with us. They each have their "math books" and they play with some of the manipulatives and write in their math books while Logan and I do his math. It makes them feel important and its just one more subject they are busy for. I hope to fill our sheep trough (which we use as a wading pool in the Summer) with sand and put it on our play porch, which is covered and right off the dinning room where Logan and I school. First we do math, since they do it with us and since its a quiet table activity. Then when Logan and I move on to handwriting, they do their sensory tubs at the table. After a while, they start getting antsy so I'm hoping to then get them out on the porch and into the sand box (along with the other toys and clubhouse we have out there). I'm hoping that little rotation will give Logan and I good time to do work. I could get more done when my 2 yr old naps, but Mama needs a rest! Excited to see all the other ideas on here! |

This is a great website for things to do with toddlers. A lot of her stuff is montesori inspired.
