Weird dream

The other night I had a really strange dream. DH didn't seem to be in the picture (don't know why, you know how dreams are) and I was moving to California. I only had a few hours to get myself and the kids packed up before our flight and was panicked about what to bring. In the end I decided to just start fresh and only buy the things I absolutely needed once there from Ikea.

Clearly minimalism has been on my mind!!

My take away is to think about my overcrowded spaces in a new way. Would I buy that item again? For instance, I know my husband bought that chocolate fondue pot, but I have NEVER used it. That would free up nice space for the crayon container sitting on my counter. I know, this isn't a new concept but I needed a kick to get motivated again!

Re: Weird dream

I have those types of dreams ALL THE TIME. I also fantasize about having to pack quickly to move to a new country. Maybe I have a minimalist fe---h lol.

Re: Weird dream

LOL! 1st) every time i have to pack to switch countries (happens a lot) I think that EVERY. Time. "Why am I not rich enough to dump everything and start fresh?!?!?" and 2nd) I was actually thinking the same things last night- like, if the house was on fire, what would I grad (after family, DUH), and would I miss what I didn't grab? And, how much easier is packing going to be if we continue down this minimalist path??

Re: Weird dream

I declutter by thinking that I am packing to move. I look at each item and say, would I bring this to my dream home? Makes it easier to let go of stuff when I picture it cluttering up my new, lovely home.

And speaking of moving, when my parents move, they plan to have an estate sale. They are going to pack their clothes, some antiques and the dog. Everything else they will rebuy for their new home. I think it is genius!
My kids are 2, 3 and 5! Sleep and patience are in short supply.
