Re: I've hit a rut

Well howdy to you two in Japan, from me in Korea! LOL, not military, though.

Anyway, another idea to get yourself going again is to simply set a timer for 15 minutes, and work really hard during those 15 minutes. The, at the end, you can choose to either stop without feeling guilty, or keep going if you're really on a roll. I find it helps because you're not feeling like you're just facing the ENTIRE ROOM and will be a failure if you don't do it ALL THAT DAY. If you work hard for 15 minutes then one, you'll be amazed at what you can accomplish, and two, you won't feel defeated before you even begin.

Re: I've hit a rut

You're doing great!

Like another poster mentioned, I usually clean off all of the surfaces and put everything in large bins. Vacuum, dust, rearrange the furniture how you want it, decorate, etc. You will love the clean new look and will not want ANY junk to go back in. Then, I go through the bins with a purge mindset - toss, keep, donate. After the initial sorting, I go back through the "keep" pile, reevaluate, and toss/keep/donate again.

I am impatient and want it all to happen in a day, but realistically that's hard to do with kids. It's overwhelming, but "just do the next thing" and keep moving forward, even if it's in small increments.

Re: I've hit a rut

I think i need a scanner, alot of my mess seems to be paperwork such as maps, instructions and recipes. I can recycle a ton and purge alot if i upgrade our printer.

Re: I've hit a rut

Yes paper clutter is the worst and I find it EVERYWHERE!!! I have so much to shred that I think I am just going to burn it because it will be faster. We have a scanner but I haven't scanned in the save stuff yet. I was able to get rid of a good amount of what we had because it was not important.

Re: I've hit a rut

oh burning it sounds much easier, I try to get rid of stuff right away but with all our traveling I don't want to get rid of maps and stuff unless I have a backup to use in the future
