Tell me about the K-12 program...
I'm looking into using the K-12 program next year. My kids are not homeschooled yet.. so, I'm feeling pretty clueless about all of the options. I would have 3 children.. K, 2nd, and 3rd grades. I'd love to hear your experiences. Thanks!!

Anyways, it's super easy on the parent. All the lessons and planning are done or you. K12 sends you a ton of books and stuff; we even got a computer. Your child has a teacher who monitors his progress and is available for extra help, if needed. I think it's a great first step away from traditional public school on the way to homeschooling.

Re: Tell me about the K-12 program...
It depends on if you are doing the K12 indepdent study program or through a Virtual Academy.

We are doing the K-12 program this year for the first time with my 5 year old. We LOVE it. It was the best decision we ever made. It gives us the help with curriculum and planning (ie we don't have to stress about what to plan or how) and yet gives us the flexibility to go at his pace, on his time. I could not be happier with our decision!

Re: Tell me about the K-12 program...
Were currently doing it but will soon be leaving it. It was a great way to transation to a mre tradtional HS setting and we have no super regrets for choosing it but were ready to move beyond K12. This is our finial semester...

Re: Tell me about the K-12 program...
I am doing it this year with my 4th grader, and we are not really thrilled by it. I think it probably does make a good transition from public school to homeschool, but if you or your children are not good at sticking to a rather tight schedule, or are not great at keeping on task then K12 is probably not a good match for you.
I will give you an example of what I mean. My son is really slow at writing stuff. He is a perfectionist. So a writing assignment that is scheduled to be 60 minutes will take him up to 3-4 hours to do with all of the writing and erasing and ripping up his paper and starting again. When I contacted his teacher about this her only suggestion is to reward him if he can go faster. That was no help what so ever to me, and now she is getting upset with us over the fact that he is way ahead in his hours of Language skills writing assignments, but is slightly behind in the progress. Yet she has no other suggestions of what to do other then make him go faster. My son has art for his extra class. The schedule gives him 45 minute. Again as his perfection self he can not go through the computer work which takes between 15-20 minutes most days and then be able to draw the artwork of the day in that little amount of time. Most days we start around 9 in the morning and on a good day we are done by about 7 or 8 at night. With a half hour out for lunch and another half hour out for dinner. I am well aware that we are not the norm, but with so many people singing the praises of K12 I really thought it would be a breeze to do. It is not for us.

Re: Tell me about the K-12 program...
Having 3 in K12 will be very time consuming. Just warning you. It is very teacher intensive in the lower grades. There is a big learning curve and the first month or so will be rough. But, if you can get past that it will be much better. Also remember that you do not have to do everything they want you to do. I am using it with my 5 year old and I skip a lot. Otherwise I would be doing school forever and have mutiny on my hands! I also have 2 older kids I am homeschooling so I can't spend forever on extra K activities. Just a note of warning, they expect your Ker to already know their letters. It will make the K curriculum so much easier if they already know their letters and can write their name. Overall, we like it. Helps to keep you on track and they do provide everything. Good luck!
