Unhappy Help with HARD WATER!

So I've pretty much concluded that we have hard water. I use a teeny tiny amount of detergent, and my poor ds ALWAYS has a rash when I use cloth. I've tried many different types of detergent and I don't know what else to do. Disposables-no problem. For the first time in about a week, I put cloth on ds to go out to the store, came home after less than 2 hours with it on and the poor guy had a huge rash on his bum!

This is so frustrating. What do the rest of you with hard water do?? It's not even worth it at this point to use cloth!

TIA. . .

Re: Help with HARD WATER!

There is another thread on here about hard water. I believe a lot of them are using Calgon water softner. I will look for the thread and attach it below when I find it.

Here is the thread not much there, but hope it helps.

Re: Help with HARD WATER!

Try adding just a small amount of Calgon to your wash routine when you add the detergents in. Make sure you rinse really well after.
This should help, its worth a shot.

Re: Help with HARD WATER!

what are you using for dipes? is it possible that it's diaper related and not your hard water? we've got hard water, use FBs and Allen's Naturally and haven't had any problems.

Hmm. We have really hard water, and I've never had any problems with it causing smells or rashes...

Definitely give Calgon a try. I know that a lot of people have had huge success with it. I keep getting tempted to buy some and try it, but since I don't have any problems, I'm just going to keep doing what I'm doing.

HOpefully something will help...

Re: Help with HARD WATER!

Thanks, i'm going to check out that thread. I did a search in diaper chatter and came up with nothing. . .sorry to duplicate a thread!!

I'll have to research Calgon, I hadn't thought of that. I'm almost POSITIVE it's the water b/c we have scummy build up on our sinks and in our tub. Right now I'm using Charlie's Soap (not really soap) which is supposed to be really really good stuff and great for CDing.

We have hard water too and no problems w/rashes since dd was NB. When she first started wearing CDs at about a wk old she was always red but I discovered fleece liners and that did the trick! Keeping her butt from being sopping wet avoids rashes here

I have hard water as well( well water) and I use Borax with the dipes. Just add half a cup and it really gets the yuckys out well.
