Re: Explain to me about cloth and circumcision

I use sposies and plain Vasoline when my DS was circed. The BEST tip I can give you, is, instead of applying the vasoline/A&D ointment directly TO the penis, put it right ON TO the diaper, right where the penis will lay. This way you don't have to further irritated the area by touching, and its still protected and won't stick to the diaper!!! My DS cried so hard the first 2 times I had to apply the Vasoline, doing it the othe way was so much easier, and no tears at all

You are so fortunate to be so close to where this will take place. The specialist we had to go to was about a 45 minute drive away but I wouldn't have taken him to anyone else..... the dr who performed the surgery is one of the top in his field AND my husband has met the dr who trained him and gave him a glowing recommendation.

Re: Explain to me about cloth and circumcision

I'm another mom with boys who had the Plastibell method. Just wanted to add: the pediatrician who did DS2 was THRILLED to see we were using cloth - he said that, while it can sometimes stick to sposies, that it shouldn't be a problem with cloth (it wasn't), and he congratulated us for using cloth.

Re: Explain to me about cloth and circumcision

We circ'd our first, but not our second, so it has been quite a while since I had to care for a circ'd penis, but I remember using vaseline, and those no stick wound pads over DS1's penis while it was healing.

And for the poster who's baby is having surgery and they offered to offer formula to baby in recovery, is giving them a bottle of expressed BM to use an option for you? I know it is likely baby will not go for the bottle, but if he does take the bottle, the taste of BM may be comforting for him. Hope things go well and he heals quickly.

Good idea. I'll take a bottle just in case. Thanks!

DS was circ'd today. They gave us a medicated ointment to use instead of vasoline. Anyone have any tips for applying it? I tried using a Q-tip, but that didn't work well. They also told us not to use gauze, so I can't use that to apply it either.

We're using fleece liners, and they seem to be keeping him more comfy and dry. They put him in a sposie right after the surgery, and boy do they smell!
