Alva baby review

Hi, just wanted to put my review out there. Got my Alvas from various coops. They are a nice addition to my stash but they don't come in hook & loop closure.

In general, the Alvas are not bulky and elastic are gentle. The suede cloth gets a little pilly after multiple washes. They recommend not to wash on hot. I have washed on hot a few times with no issues, but I try to get a load of covers/pockets to wash on warm when possible. The regular Alvas leaked a little pee when he first started using them at 10 weeks (~12lbs). They have held poo in so far! I have managed to get a fitted under these as they have a full coverage cut. The 3-layer bamboo inserts are very trim and silky. I am currently using Softbums for a trim night diaper but will probably transition to Alvas stuffed w 2 bamboo inserts for higher pee holding capacity.

The Alvas I have tried:

PUL/suede cloth
The PUL feels silky.

Minky/suede cloth
Seems to fit larger (either that or their sizing might vary a little), tend to wick.

S-series (colored snap, double gusset, pockets open front and back, has 4th row of rise snaps)
Legs can be adjusted to be tighter than regular Alva.

Pul/suedecloth in jean print

Red S-series

Cow print S-series

I've noticed that the minky ones tend to wick, too. It's fine when we're at home and I can be dilligent about changes, but I never pack minkies in the diaper bag or put him in the carseat or down for a nap in one.

Way cute. Are the S series the one with the double gussets?

I love my Alva's. 80% of my stash consist of Alva's. I have a few minky's and mine leak too.. hmm... Glad to know mine arent the only ones... Must be a factory flaw or something?

Re: Alva baby review

The minky seem to wick when diaper is saturated. If I change earlier than I normally do, then it does not wick.

The double gusset S-series is my go to bomb-proof diaper.

The cute prints and cheap prices keeps me going back for more.

I agree. The insert can be completely soaked, and this diaper won't leak. The gussets would have been awesome for nb poop. I wish that they had more colors!

Re: Alva baby review

I just ordered a couple of these. The prints are so cute and the price is awesome. Thanks for your review!! Just wondering - how are these for chunky thighs?

Re: Alva baby review

The regular Alvas are probably great for chunky thighs as they fit a little loose on regular/skinny thighs (was loose around 10-12lbs on my baby). The db gussets are more adjustable w the 4 rise settings (therefore can tighten leg holes more than regular Alva). I started using the S-series at 15+lbs and the smallest setting was to tight. Wished I had it earlier, my guess is that they would fit maybe 8lbs onwards, depending on shape of your baby.
