Question about bed sharing
I've ALWAYS wondered this and I just want someone to answer this. I understand sleeping next to your baby in the bed during the night. But what do you do during the day when the baby is napping and you aren't? Does the baby roll off the bed? Mine's 14 months now and I just KNOW that if I ever tried to put her on a regular bed she wouldn't stay for a minute. Do bed-sharers have separate cribs just for when baby is sleeping alone? Do you put rails along the entire bed? Someone help explain!

Re: Question about bed sharing
We don't co-sleep anymore, but when we did, he napped in his crib or pack and play. When he was an itty bitty sometimes I would let him sleep in our bed and put the rail up, but at 14 months there is no way he would have stayed put.

I never had a problem with this. I had a crib for my DS, but he usually just napped in my bed at home because I'd nurse him to sleep. At daycare he napped in a crib. By 14 months he had a toddler bed and would nap there sometimes too without me having to worry about hime escaping or something. DD is only 2 months, and she naps in my bed or in my arms at the moment.

Re: Question about bed sharing
We bed-share from newborn until they wean themselves. We've never had any bed rollers actually. My thoughts are that they know the bed boundries because that is the only place they sleep. Just like adults. I don't fall off the bed while sleeping or napping because I know how big the bed is. Both kids have slept on the outside before at the edge, but never fell off. For naps, I just put them in the bed just like at bedtime (I don't go to bed at the same time as them). I do have some blankets on the floor just in case, but has never happened in the 4 years we've been doing it.

Re: Question about bed sharing
When she was younger she napped in her swing or her babychair ( b/c that is the only place she would nap) and now that she is older I wear her to sleep and she naps in her playpen.

Re: Question about bed sharing
LO slept in the bed. I'd put pillows around him to kinda "block him in"
but once he started to crawl, I started putting him in his crib, on occasion, if I couldn't stay in the room with him. I'd lay down with him, nurse him to sleep and then transfer to the crib. I know some Mama's actually nap with baby while they sleep on the bed or do other things in the room. I used to read, nap or use the laptop in the bed while LO was napping. I'd even fold laundry or other "chores" in the bedroom so I was there when he woke up. For a month or so, he would make a bee-line for the edge of the bed, but he doesn't do that anymore (he's 11 months, now). I think he has depth perception, now, so he doesn't try to go off the edge.

Re: Question about bed sharing
My son face plants off the bed and thinks the crib is the root of all evil.
He only naps with me, ugh...
