Upcycled boiled wool coat!

I made my son a boiled wool jacket using a really nice wool coat from the thrift store. The binding around the hood and cuffs are from the ribbed hem of a sweater.

I couldn't find the pattern I wanted so I made the pattern.. The hood definitely required some tweaking to get it decent enough and I had to rip it off a few times and cut it down a bit. I ran out of fabric and could only make the center strip of the hood that wide. In retrospect I think a wider band and shorter side panels would have made the hood fit a little better... I was terrified of the zipper as I had never sewn with one before but it was surprisingly really easy.

I am really glad my pattern worked out well enough because there was no excess fabric to work with. It is a little flawed but overall I am really happy. My expectations of how this would were low and it came out better than I had hoped. He likes it too! He won't wear hats but he will wear this hood This cost only $4 to make including the zipper.

I really regret that I didn't take a picture of the original coat before I cut it up! It was really big, I can say that
