BFing. This is the earliest I've gotten her back - usually it's around 3-4 months

Well now I don't know what it was. Had migraine, cramps, bright red blood - and today nothing.

I seriously don't know what to so with Ivy. Thursday she was up until 4, Friday until 2:30 and last night until 4:30. What am I supposed to do? Once in a while, she will have "good"" night and be asleep by 1. I'm getting desperate. Should I make a doctor appointment? Will they say anything other than " sleep when she sleeps"? (that, by the way is the most bogus advice.)

I doubt they are going to tell you anything more than CIO until she's a year, and even then they won't do anything unless she's not sleeping for a 4 hour stretch at a time. What all have you tried?

Re: Weekly Chat December 12th - 18th

She does cry most of the evening, from 8 on... but she can be consoled, just not for long.

We've tried keeping her up after 5, trying to convince her to sleep... for a little while (only a few days) I tried tracking her sleep patterns. We tried putting her to bed, instead of downstairs, if she fell asleep after 8. She doesn't have a consistent time to go to sleep, so I'm not sure how to start a bed time routine.

ETA - I thought even the people who did CIO didn't recommend it until 6 months...

I suppose I shouldn't complain though, she sleeps almost 6 hours.

No. CIO generally isn't recommended until then, but barring a medical reason (like an earache) I've personally not seen docs be too useful when it comes to sleep personally. Especially if she's sleeping a 6 hour stretch I doubt they'd do anything.

I can only tell you what we've done. Basically, we set a bedtime (for us it is 9 PM). After being fed, they get laid down in the bed. If they wake up between then and 9 AM, any feeding, soothing, etc. is done in a darkened room with is minimal interaction as possible.

After 9 AM, I won't allow them to sleep longer than 3 hours without waking them. Until they have a set nap routine they sleep in the bouncer/swing in the family room with us. I do not attempt to keep the house quiet like I do at night.

Some things to try:

- Make the bed/room warmer/cooler
- Try swaddling/going unswaddled
- White noise/soothing music
- Propping the mattress on an incline or an alternative sleep space (in bed with you, swing, bouncer)
- Establish a pattern (bath at 6, then bottle, then bed) and do it every night
- weather permitting get outdoors during the day to help reset internal clock/melatonin production
- eliminate potential discomforts - try gripe water/gas drops, verify no reflux/ear infections
- Try different sleeping positions (side or belly instead of back)
