No - you didn't miss anything. I've had absolutely no bleeding, cramping, pain, etc. Absolutely nothing to indicate any problem whatsoever. The way the Dr. was talking about it made it sound like it is standard procedure for them. Frankly any Dr. who is doing enough procedures like cerclages to actively search for a reason to do them terrifies me.

Re: My appointment in a broken system - long

Wow! Awesome job standing up for yourself, but I am so sorry that you didn't get to hear/see your baby. That OB and nurse sounds crazy! My 10 week appointment my midwife took blood, checked urine, measured my uterus and we listened to the baby's heartbeat. No pelvic / pap needed because I had that in May. I sure hope you find a midwife or OB that will listen to you! I have never heard of all that being checked out at 10 weeks! Especially is you haven't had any problems!!

GOOD FOR YOU!!! The worst part is there are so many women who are less sure about the procedures needed and probably get roped into all of that! And then of course there have to be some side effects to some of those things (like taking medicine all pregnancy long?). Best to do what's really necessary and benefit from the modern science on an as-needed basis.

Good luck with the midwife... that's the route we're going, and this is baby #1 We just really want to start basic (aka the way of generations past) and if more is needed then we can assess that as it comes.

Uhg I am terrified I also have military doc but I don't get to downgrade and see other docs because we are overseas. I did do a transvaginal u/s but will not be doing a pelvic ( and they will be so mad because I havea history of abnormal) they can't do anything while I am preggo anyway so why put myself in discomfort and fear after when I spot for days. Also they will freak because I am opting out of glucose test this time around and I had to take the 3 hour one 6 times with my last and am high risk. Oh they are gunna hate me! But if I knew with my first and second the things I know now I feel like I would have had a much happier pregnancy. Basically I will be going in every month to hear heartbeat and get my blood pressure taken.

Good luck mama, I hope you like the midwife. And remember they don't know your body like you do so just stick to what you feel is best for you and that bean of yours!

ddc - totally weird all the way around! good job for sticking to your guns. maybe someone should tell the doc that "ptl" at 10 weeks is called a threatened miscarriage? that's just so weird! I could see an ultrasound or internal to feel uterine size if you weren't sure of dates but just for giggles? gl mama!!

Wow thanks for all the support you guys! It means a lot when at the end of the day I'm wishing I had heard that sweat heartbeat. I mean I wouldn't change my decision but its nice to know it wasn't for nothing.

No kidding!! The more I think about it the more I kind of think she was just saying things that sounded serious to get me to consent to the exam. I mean I really hope that's not the case for the sake of her other patients - but it sure seems that way. And as far as dates go - I had a loss the cycle previous to this one and caught this egg only dtd ONE time the whole month and it was because of a +opk - so I'm certain of dates within a few day window and that's good enough for me!

One of the best examples of self advocating I have seen. Good for you! Sorry that you had to go through that. I agree, that doctors office functions in bizzaro land.
