Hudson Hat Help

My mom bought me this pattern for my birthday and she started the first one for me. But I am attempting it on my own this time.

I have both the ear flaps done and am about to start the brim, but I am a little confused where to leave my live yarn? Do I cut the yarn off of both ear flaps before casting on the brim stitches?

Also what method did you use to cast on the brim stitches?

Re: Hudson Hat Help

I hope I explain this right...I cut the yarn on one ear flap, and left it live on the other, to cast on the brim. I used a knitted cast on, because I can't do a cable cast on without making it too tight.
