Re: Bad NT scan results...should I get a second opinion?

Just wanted to report that we received our FISH results yesterday: a baby girl with Down syndrome. I don't even know what to do from here. Thank you all for your positive thoughts and words of encouragement. I'll be heading over to the Ds pregnancy support forums now...

there is also a special needs subforum in parenting forum that may have additional mamas who have been there and are doing it.

Re: Bad NT scan results...should I get a second opinion?

I know those results must be hard to hear. i wonder about testing if we ever get pg again. i never did testing with dd because we wouldn't terminate for any reason. now, having a special needs dd and dealing with the shock of it at birth i would really have liked to have had time to process things. she doesn't have something that can be tested for, but i think i would get tested if we do get pg.

i don't know if this is comforting for you or not, but i know some amazing DS kids. really cool kiddos that we am lucky to have in our lives.

Oh mama. I know this is scary but you're little girl will be amazing. I have a close friend who's lo has Downs. We didn't know until she was born and it was very frightening of course, and a shock. But Sienna is sweet, smart and adored by her family. What a blessing she is, even though it was scary at first. Also you may enjoy this blog. It is beautifully written. http://www.kellehampton.com/2010/01/...rth-story.html I am actually thinking of naming my baby I'm expecting after her little one (if it's a girl) this story has really stuck with me. Huge hugs mama.

I was thinking of you today and hadn't read the update. I know that isn't what you wanted to hear. I took care of a little girl with Downs when I worked at the gym in the childcare dept and she was so sweet. I just loved her to pcs. Her mom said she was the best little baby ever and that some of the things associated with Downs weren't so bad. She slept really well, she was always happy, and because of low muscle tone she liked to be snuggled much longer than her older 2 babies who started crawling and sitting by 6mos and were less dependent. I don't mean these things in a rude way, but it was nice to hear a mom embrace the things she was dealing with instead of dwelling on them like I've heard so many times.
for your baby girl and for you mama.
