What is for dessert on Christmas/Christmas eve?

I think I have our menus planned for both dinners, but haven't quite decided about dessert. Cheesecake sounds really appealing, but I have only made the quickie one with the sweetened condensed milk and not sure I really want to make that one. We are nut free so that sort of thing is out. I was also thinking lemon pudding cake, but I might be the only one who really wants that.

Any great traditions or recipes that you use?

I always make a cheesecake for christmas day dessert but this year my 15 year old wants to make creme brulee and we are doing a test run this afternoon - christmas eve I am making trifle.

We don't do christmas dinner at our place but I am generally the dessert person!!!

Re: What is for dessert on Christmas/Christmas eve?

We're doing cookies for Christmas eve for dd. We go to the in-laws which is always stressful, lots of peanut butter fudge and stuff. Thankfully only adults will be eating the peanut butter fudge so everyone knows and will be watched to make sure they eat it at the island (where dd can't reach) and that they wash after. No nuts allowed any where but the island. Its our compromise. DH's grandma has been making her fudge for ?? 40 years?? so its tradition. It has actually worked well for us the last couple years. It doesn't hurt that we have shown everyone who comes into contact with her pictures of what happens if peanut butter even touches her. Things might need to change next year when my niece will be older and able to eat the fudge too.

Christmas day I am making a spice cake for us at home. Cheesecake sounds good! DD can't have milk either and we don't need 2 deserts so nothing like that for us. Lemon pound cake sounds good too- we're making lemon cookies using a boxed cake mix. I really need to host something just so I have an excuse to make all the stuff I like without wasting food.

Oh- wish I had thought of this earlier- White Chocolate and Strawberry Tiramisu. Its more like a strawberry shortcake on steroids then Tiramisu, but it is really good.

This is the first year we are peanut free at Christmas, but we aren't traveling so it will be just us. Next year there will be lots of plates of mixed cookies- peanut, etc, so it will be more of a challenge.

That strawberry tiramisu sounds delicious- love tiramisu too!

We are having fruitcake (soaked in wine) and tiramisu (made with real rum). You can see the common theme....

Buttermilk apple cake. We don't get fancy with desserts on xmas. But apple cake, made with quality ingredients and served with freshly whipped cream, is always a hit.

Yum... I used to love an apple cake that was served with a warm custard when I lived in England- I have never had a buttermilk one though.

I think I am going with Creme Brulee. I don't often have the occasion to make such a rich dessert, so I think that will be the perfect one.

probably cookies that we are making for santa anyway

a steamed pudding sounds good though, would remind me of home... or I'd make cinnamon rolls if we weren't having them for xmas breakfast
