Hi! I'm planning a vaginal birth for my daughter (35 weeks preg today!) But the doctor found last week that the cord is wrapped twice around her neck. She is completely happy to go ahead with a natural birth, but did remind me that the chance of heartrate dropping and being rushed into surgery is "higher". SO:
I have my birth plan for natural birth all together, but what do I need to request for caesarean? I understand there are different folds, incision types, anesthetics, etc.

Please advise!

Oh, and this would be my first c-section, my older two were vag births.

My request for my csection was-
Stitches! NO staples!
No morphine in the spinal(I can't handle it) I was in pain after the spinal wore off but it was better than vomiting for hours after birth
And two people in the or

Adding- you should get a low incision. They only do a classic incision is its absolutely necessary.

If you get a section make sure to take the offered pain meds after delivering. After my first child was born by emergency section I didn't want them because I was planning on nursing and wanted as few drugs as possible. The refusal lasted about 5min. I was still able to nurse but without the pain killer I wouldn't have been able to. If you can afford it look for a c-section belt to help with the pain. I wasn't able to get one but I believe how it works is it helps hold the stomach muscles so they don't jiggle every time you move. With my second child I used a swim suit for similar results. It provided the support I needed. I can only imagine how much more comfortable a real belt would be. To find one I just googled c-section belt.

Just curious. How were the doctors able to tell about the cord wrap? My youngest had 4 cord wraps and had heart decells and I wasn't even in labor. He was another emergency section. We were supposed to schedule a section for the following week. The doctors did several US trying to see why he wasn't moving and while monitoring him his heart rate started dropping. After he was born they told me the problem was the 4 cord wraps.

I would also say plan for extra help when you get home just in case. With a section you have more restrictions as you are recovering not just from child birth but also from major abdominal surgery. This can make you more tired than you normally are after child birth.
A friend told me after having 3 vag births and 1 section that she took longer after the section to regain her energy.

Extra help after birth is needed. I couldn't even change my panties for a few days without DH help. He even helped me wash up in the shower.

Ask if they can bind your belly after surgery. In my hospital for my second two sections, they wrap me with an abdominal binder while in the OR. They didn't do that with my first and it really helped.

Ask ahead of time if 1) they put duromorph in the spinal after the section and 2) what they do to control the itchies afterwards and 3) if you can skip benadryl and go to something more effective. Duromorph in the spinal helps control pain afterwards. Well worth it for that reason but it made me itch like crazy. This deep itching that seemed to almost go down to my bones. They gave me tons of benadryl but I read recently that it has little effect on duramorph itchies because it's nerve related rather than histamine related.

No advice on the c-section but I wanted to encourage you that all 5 of my babies have had a nuchal cord x2 and we never knew until they were born, no abnormal decels at all.

The way Baby's head was turned during the scan the doctor could see it really clearly. Since I'm only 35 weeks I'm hoping she'll untangle herself, but Dr said she's already "down and turning".

Of course I'm completely fine with a section if that's best for baby, but I'm REALLY hoping to avoid it. I HATE NEEDLES. haha

Thanks! These stories are really encouraging right now!!

I'm not planning on having an epidural throughout labor. I suppose that means if I get rushed into OR they'll have to knock me out? Or does that mean just a local? Nursing afterwards is very important, so should I ask them for local if they can do it that way?

I had an emergency c-section ( from when I entered triage straight to the OR.) I had a spinal, it took effect immediately.
