3 Day Potty Training...Should we keep going?

Alright, so tomorrow is day 3. DD is 18mo as of the 19th. We started the process b/c for a couple of weeks she had been patting her diaper when she was going and saying "dye dye" for diaper. So yesterday she had about 15-20 accidents and 4 successes. One of those succsses she told me before and went poo on the toilet. Today she had about 12 or 13 accidents and about 7 sucesses but most of those were me getting her there for the second half of the act. Lol She also didn't go ALL morning (8-1130) but let it all out over nap time. I should mention that she gave her binky to Santa on Sunday evening, but that only affects nap/bedtime when I still have her in diapers so I don't think it is affcting her much. Our main issue is that when she pees she doesn't go all at once so I may get her to the potty but a lot of the time she will go again 5 min later. Anyway, I had said my limit was Friday since Sunday we are going to family's for Christmas and while I had planned for accidents, I was hoping she would be ok.

(sorry phone cut me off) So should I give it until Friday or give her a diaper if she doesn't "click" for her by lunch tomorrow?

I'd say go back to diapers! I've never tried to PL a baby that young, but my niece did really well with it. There aren't many who are ready physically at that point. They just can't make the connection yet and they don't have the bladder control. I'd try again when she knows when she's going and really WANTS to use the potty. Usually more like 2.5 years old IME.

Was telling you she was wet her only readiness sign? If so I might put it aside for now....

Doesn't the lady who wrote the three day method recommend 21 months? Or maybe it's 23? Anyway, I would wait, 18 months is really young.

Re: 3 Day Potty Training...Should we keep going?

I personally think that it is very doable to potty train a child this young and think that is better to start earlier rather than later because it makes them more aware of their body signals rather than ignoring them. DS was potty trained by 19 months and we started laying the groundwork a while before. We too used the 3 day method but I greatly adapted it to fit our needs, so if you need a break over the holidays just put her in diapers but still take her to the potty regularly and do what you can! Good luck!

not telling me just she was wet, but that she was going right then. Like,as she was grunting and going poo she would pat her diaper. She did it for pee as well. She is aware she is going (specially while naked) just doesn't get the "ok...time to go to the potty" part yet...

Re: 3 Day Potty Training...Should we keep going?

honestly she may not really be ready. My son was telling us and sometimes going on the potty at 18 months but was no where near ready to really potty train. it was really me just rushing him to the potty. Now at 2.5 he has been going 1-2 times a day and totally gets it. plus he doesn't go as much now so I can catch it easier. It was stressful when I tried when he was younger and we both ended up frustrated, now he is ready and it has been much easier and less stressful.

Use diapers so that you aren't stressed about accidents, but be consistent about taking her if you think she needs to go so that she doesn't get confused. You want her to still know that "we go in the potty now."
