First, I have to say I am NO professional. Just a moma in desperate need of trainers. Thought this may help another moma in a simular financial situation.
I sew all the time, practical stuff. I'm not so great at making things beautifully. As you can see. These are my first trainers. I used to make most of our dipes. Not the cutest, but here goes. I was unable to find anyone to trade with to get some trainers for William, so this is what I did. 100% recycled materials from old shirts/pants/blankets/ect... They turned out to be too small so I had to make some extenders to make them work. I took a small side snap trainer and upsized the pattern (which I made from taped together paper). I also had to make a patern for the inner soaker. Cut the fleece to size, I did two layers to be safe even though it was thick. ![]() Trainer pattern alone. ![]() Soaker pattern laid on top making sure it is just a bit smaller in the crotch. ![]() Soaker pattern alone. ![]() Cutting the soaker material. This was much easier folding the shirt this way and cutting all at once. ![]() Zigzag the edge of the soaker material. I used 6 layers because it was thin. ![]() Close up of soaker edge. When done sewing, I just slightly trimed the edges. ![]() Using a straight stitch, I just sewed the soaker in. Being carefull to leave a little space around the edges of the srotch. Just so the soaker was not sewn to the edge. Hard to explain. ![]() See how the soaker is centered. This is a thicker cotton from pants so I only used 4 layers of it. ![]() Then I trimed the fleece as close as I safely could to clean up the look. ![]() Sew the velcro on with a tight zigzag. ![]() Front velcro placement. ![]() Closed up. ![]() Back view. ![]() Inners. ![]() Outers. ![]() Super trim. ![]() Nice and trim crotch. ![]() These turned out to be a true 2T, William is almost 3 YO. Super tight. ![]() Way to tight. ![]() Rear view. ![]() I was forced to make extenders. What a shame they didn't fit. They arn't the prettiest, but super tim and functional. They will work though. I made 2 sets of extenders.

Subbing so I can find this later! I have been thinking about making fleece trainers just like this in the future. Thanks for sharing mama, they look great and extenders are a great idea!
