Re: 2,012 items in 2012

On Friday, I had a great day for minimizing! Sold my spare carseat and booster on cl (cha ching!), and dropped of a ton of stuff at consignment, including some bulky baby items and 2 trikes. So I got rid of over 100 items and have more space in the shed, laundry room, and office! The bonus is I'll actually get something back for the stuff I got rid of.

And I found out that some of the consignment items have already sold.

Re: 2,012 items in 2012

This thread has inspired me to really minimize. I've sold tons of stuff on Craigslist out of my spare bedroom that I was hanging on to for some unknown even-to-me reason. I've wanted a craft room and never had the space. Truth is I was using what could be my craft room as a catch all for stuff I don't even need or want. I can't wait to get rid of some of the other stuff, I have a bedframe to get rid of which will be a pita to transport but that will be the last big thing to get rid of in that room.

I did email the lady and asked for them back. I hope they end up back on my porch when I get home. I'm probably more upset about my daughters shovel. I really only use my shovel when it's a light snowing otherwise I have my husband out there with the snowblower.

I'm going to also report her to the freecycle people. She also grabbed the pull ups that were out there but those I were going to put on freecycle and just never got around to it, so I really don't care about those but it would be nice that if you see something on the porch dont' just help yourself. She could have just ran the doorbell I was actually home all day just not watching for when she was going to show up. I would have told her yes to the pull ups but no to the shovel. Odd though that she left the bag of play kitchen toys that I was going to put on freecycle. She must have enough play plates/cups.

Wow, that is gutsy. Hope she returns your stuff. I'd report her either way.

Re: 2,012 items in 2012

Well she brought back my daughters shovel but claims my shovel broke. Umm... how'd it break, we don't have any snow! Whatever. I'm done with it. Lesson learned I could at least take a write off on my taxes if I donate.

Re: 2,012 items in 2012

I was at 227 a week ago and I have been doing pretty good at clearing since then - just not at posting. I spent a day going through paper stuff 41 magazines gone, a day decluttering one dumping spot - filled a grocery bag w/stuff lets call that 10more. Took recyclable battery to Lowes and returned 11 not needed/extra items too.

Yesterday I worked in the corner of the LR where the desk is set up - it has not been cleaned up in the last 3 yrs b/c DH likes to pile stuff there. It took me the entire day to work on that one corner!

-fabric scrap w/snaps
-clown nose
-3 rubber bands
-string bracelet
- pc used sandpaper
- strap from?
- plastic container w/beads in it
- almost m/t conditioner bottle
- 42 magazines/catalogues/brochures
- 1 binder
-old desk mat
- magnet
- lots of paper stuff

My new total - 345

Is it okay to join in now? I'm working on getting rid of as much as I can, so I'd love to see if I can reach the 2012 items!

Anything special I need to know? Like what counts as one item?

I don't think there are hard and fast rules. I know one person said something about counting about 6 pcs of paper as one item early on - and I've sort of kept that in mind as I've been going. For me - I haven't been counting the new mail/magazines that come in and go out - b/c my whole goal is to see a big difference in the amt of stuff in my house. So I am trying to keep up with the new stuff but I'm only counting the stuff that has taken up permanent residence when it leaves. Does that make sense?

Jump in! I'm only in the 300s - Some of the mommas are 1/2 way already. It will take me all year to get there. I'm going to need someone else still here.

Sorta back on track after a massive migraine.

2 of this plastic rolling bins gone. But I did replace them with a slightly larger one, (recent trash find) but it made me get rid of more stuff. So I will only count one

Bunch of plastic treat bags
Bunch of misc scrapbooking supplies (I don't scrap book)
4 chocolate molds
1 medium basket from the bedroom

And some random trash from the bathroom. (like used deodorant sticks still in my basket, band aid wrappers)

I'm going with 8, for the past week. Ugh.

Garage sale in 9 days, it all needs to go!
