NT scan
Have any of you had an NT scan yet, if you plan on doing so? I see my OB on tuesday and I'm thinking at this time thats when we will schedule it cause i'm assuming it has to be done out of office cause her u/s machine looks pretty old lol. I was sent out of office for the dating u/s. I'm looking forward to this just cause I wanna see the baby and how much bigger he/she is now
hoping to snap a photo also!ETA: I'm wondering if this will even be offered to me as i'm only 24 and the risks for down's is so low?

DDC -- I was 26 with my first and they offered the screening to me. Just because you're young doesn't mean that you don't have risk factors, you/they won't know until they ask you the questions.

It is the nuchal translucency scan - it's part of the "first trimester screening" for down syndrome and trisomy 18.
The whole test involves a bit of family history, ultrasound, bloodwork and math. They calculate your risk based on the results of the three pieces of info combined.

Re: NT scan
I was asked if I wanted to have it done with all my pregnancies. My first was at 25, second at 28 and now at 30. (This time my doctor said I should have it done because of my advanced maternal age - funny, didn't think 30 was old, but apparently it is
![]() It was super quick and easy, which is why I went ahead with the peace of mind it would give me. They measured the baby's neck at 12 weeks and then pricked my finger. They called me a few days later with the results which were like 1 in 8000. I went back and forth as to whether I would want to know the results, but for me, knowing and preparing is better than finding out at the last minute. I wouldn't have changed anything, but I like to be prepared. I am scheduled to go in two weeks for mine, plus it is another excuse to see the baby

Re: NT scan
I've been offered it with each of my kiddos. I've never had it done because the results wouldn't make a difference to us. I remember the Dr. mentioning one of the times that it may not be covered by insurance because I didn't have high risk factors, but I would have to call the insurance to see if they would cover it or not. Although I'm feeling anxious to see this little one...and I'm thinking I should have just agreed to it this time to see my little one sooner!!! Feb still seems so far away!

Never wanted it done because for me the results wouldn't change anything... But at my office they just do bloodwork to test and they said false positives are very common and cause too much stress.
