Guess what breast milk did??

DD (18 mo) caught conjunctivitis of the eye (aka, pink eye) from her baby cousin over Thanksgiving.

I treated her by squirting breast milk into her eyes (Very funny, btw, as I was trying to squirt her and she was squirming to latch on...lol!) twice a day for three days and the infection was G*O*N*E!

Amazing!

My husband has doubted my decision to bf until dd is 3, but I think he's starting to come around now!

I KNOW!! Never was so happy to be extended bfing!!

I was also really glad a couple weeks ago when she had a fever and just wanted to suckle the whole time. I knew she was getting hydrated and comforted at once

It's awesome, huh? If I miss anything about breastfeeding (other than snuggling a sweet baby) it's having the most convenient first-aid item in the world. I would use it on baby boo-boos and any sort of eye infection. I even convinced my DH to let me use it on a sty in his eye once or twice. I love breastmilk.

I was kind of racking my brain thinking of how I was going to squirt MYSELF in the eye in case the infection spread to me! LOL!!!

That's a good point. I never thought of that. Let's just say that it was hard enough getting some milk into my DH's eye... I can't imagine trying to get it into my own. LOL

If I ever need to do some squirting, I have a bunch of syringes that I was collecting milk in for J in the early days when I was producing just a few drops at a time, so I might use those.

Yay for the infection going away.
