My Mood:
Right now ds is ebf. Well we started doing a bottle of formula before bed about a month ago so I guess not ebf anymore. Anyway, while nursing I have fed on demand, no set schedule. My older 2 were ff from 4 months on and I fed them about every 4 hours. By then they were sttn and fed around 7am, 11, 3pm, 7pm.

Currently ds LOVES to eat table food too. I still nurse on demand all day but sometimes when I offer he's not interested. I'm thinking about starting to slowly wean him. I'm just curious that if I do, should I follow a schedule like before or what?

ETA: I should add that he's FAR from sttn and seems to want to stay attached all. night. long! And I am SO done with that. He also hardly naps too so I am desperate for something better.

Re: Do you feed on demand or by a schedule?

It's taken us a long time to get a schedule down even though this baby has been fed no different than my others. Anyway, I feed on demand. Just recently, we went from 2 bottles during the night, down to 1 and now, finally, he is STTN He eats every 3 hours during the day. This amounts to 5 bottles, 3 "meals" and a snack after his bedtime bottle. I would try to do the same as you did before since that worked well for you.

Re: Do you feed on demand or by a schedule?

My girls are so happy go lucky that if I tried to feed on demand, they wouldn't be getting the amount of formula they need, so it's a schedule here. I'm serious that they won't complain about wanting to eat until they've missed several feedings. Even first thing in the morning after it's been all night long, they don't cry/scream/fuss for a bottle until it's been over an hour of them being awake.

Re: Do you feed on demand or by a schedule?

On demand. I introduced a schedule for solid foods with DD1 when she was ready for solids, but never with formula. Forcing a baby to eat on a certain schedule teaches them to ignore their body's natural cues for hunger and fullness.

Re: Do you feed on demand or by a schedule?

I always did on demand. Same with the amount in the bottle (as in never pushing him to eat more or purposely not giving him more when he wanted it). There was one time during a growth spurt in his 1st month he had 10 ounces. It was the only time but he was so cranky until I gave in and gave him that last couple ounces.
