Dirty diapers let sit for a month+

Yes mamas, you read that right. Somehow, a wetbag full of dirty diapers was left in the trunk of my car for well over a month. Given that I live in Texas, I have no idea how it went undetected.

So, now that your initial shock is over- WHAT DO I DO??? I'm terrified to even open the bag... Are the diapers already permanently damaged?

Oh my goodness! Another mama on here had that happen and there were mushrooms growing in the dipes... Not trying to scare you. I don't even remember what she wound up doing. I think I was just too stunned to see mushrooms to remember the rest...

Ok. I'm not helping. Hopefully someone has ideas...

my phone thinks it's smart. pardon the typos.

Eeep!

Do you know if they were poopy or just wet? That will make a difference. I would probably open them OUTSIDE and hose them down, if possible, then assess the damage.

This, on both counts.

If they were poopy I'd be much more frightened. I'd probably dump them out outside and hose them down, see if they look ruined, then toss them in the wash with bleach.

2,014 items in 2014?

We had that happen once, and the dipes had just dried out, lol. They didn't even smell, and one was poopy. We bleached them and they were fine. It might not be as bad as you think.

I would try and see what your dealing with in a well ventilated area lol. Like previous post mentioned depending on your weather and where the wetbag was when you found it they may have just dried out and you can get by with just washing and bleaching them a bit.

Yep I agree with PP, I would just go outside, open and asses the damages.

Re: Dirty diapers let sit for a month+

It depends on the type of diapers that are in there. I left some bamboo/cotton/polly fitteds dirty to long once and they were ruined. The fabric was slimy and fell apart.

I wouldn't even look in the bag. I would just unzip it and then throw it in the washer as quickly as possible and hope that the diapers agitate out of the bag. I'd do a couple washes and then assess the damage!!!
