Yarn Dying Question

I attempted my first hand painted yarn today!
All and all it turned out pretty well. I learned I need to mix a stronger concentration of my dyes and a couple of other tricks but, what you you guys do to limit bleeding between colors? Is orange just a tricky color? It was 1. too light and 2. got really muddy in places.
Has anyone ever tried to mix with shaving cream like you would for a swirl dye on yarn? In my head this would help unwanted blending of colors. Or with a "lighter" color like orange is it best to just leave a white line between all colors? I am super pumped to be finally trying this out..I've wanted to forever!!

I would appreciate any tips

Re: Yarn Dying Question

I read a tip to use paper towels to soak up the extra water. I feel awful using so many (I love my unpaper towels), but this is the best way to keep colors from muddying that I've found. I've also heard of dyers waiting 45 minutes or so between adding a second color...I guess that would dry up some of the excess water.

If it's too light, I'd add more dye to the same amount of water.

My Mood:
What did you use to dye? I've never had trouble with orange. I mix 2 packets of koolaid to 500ml I water.

Make sure the yarn is wet when you dye it and I always leave a reasonable amount of space between colours because they will be touching by the time they steep a bit.

Really, I can spell. It's my phone that can'tSent from my iPhone using DS Forum
