Dr. prescribing questionable meds...

So, for the past 4 day I've barely been able to eat or drink b/c of difficulty swallowing. After 1 trip to the ER and 1 trip to L&D they've determined I have really bad allergies.

Upon checking out, they tell me to go buy Claritin D and Robitussin DM. So, I did and took both once I got home. But now I'm worried! I hate taking meds....but I'm at the pt where I can barely eat or drink anything b/c everything keeps getting stuck in my throat from all the phlegm.

Are these meds going to harm my baby?!? They want me to take the Claritin D every day...

I don't have allergies, but my Dr told me that regular Claritin was ok. I'm not sure if "regular" Claritin is Claritin D or not. I hate taking anything while pregnant, so I understand your concern. Hope you get some answers that give you peace about taking something for allergies.

My midwife, at a very natural friendly birth center that has a holistic shop in house, recommended claratin today for me.

Claritn and claritin d are both accepted by my doc. I took it a lot when I was preggo with dd and she has always been super healthy. I feel ya on the allergies. I just took zyrtec (also ok with my doc and works better for me) for about a week while staying at my inlaws cuz I can't function with a cat on the house... :/ hope you get some relief! And food!

Have you used a Neti pot at all? It really helped me with my sinus problems with DD a few years ago!

Re: Dr. prescribing questionable meds...

Well, last night was horrible and I barely slept at all thanks to the Claritin D. I think I am going to take Benadryl at night rather than a second dose of Claritin. Hopefully tonight will be better!

All these meds make me feel horrible...I'm on steriods for swelling(ER Doc gave me that even tho she said she didn't see any swelling in my throat), Claritin D, Robutussin, and Amoxycillin(in case I have a sinus infection).... I feel yucky!! Plus, I have this horrible headache that I've had for 5 days now(they say it's a sinus headache)....but I feel bad giving this baby anymore drugs. So, I'm just going to suffer with it.

Sorry for whining!
