I am with you on this one. With DD I have made it well known she is not to be called Kate, Katie, Kat, etc.

*I* would rather name her what I'm going to call her. My dh thinks all those names look "unfinished" Just thought I'd ask. I can't find any "finished" names that I love. haha

I really love the name Elina (not super common here) and would shorten it to Ellie or Ella.

I understand that. There are a few names I like that I wouldn't use just because I don't like the nickname of that name. And my inlaws try to shorten all my kids names. My youngest's name is Logan and they always call him "Logey". I didn't think it was possible to shorten Logan.

Re: If you want to call her...

I would consider Emma and Ella to be 'real names', they don't need to be nicknames. Emma has been around since the 18th century in England, it's an old name, I've never heard of it being used as a nickname for a longer name. I wouldn't consider Ally to be a 'real name', I generally think of anything that ends in 'ie' or 'y' to be a nickname short for something else. Having said all that, two of our girls we use their nicknames 98% of the time. Lulu (Louisa) and Addie (Adele). Our other daughter is Stella.

I love Ella and Emma by themselves, but here are some ones I don't think have been mentioned:

Emma:
Emmaleigh
Emmalou
Emma-Lynn (could be one first name, or a first/middle thing)

Allie:
Aliana (al-e-on-uh)
Allison

Ella: Can't think of anything that hasn't been said!

My Pop Pop and grandpa called her Katie once, they never did it again! I let them know it was disrespectful, etc. I am not nice about it at all and don't care if they hate me for me.
Kaitlyn was named when I was 17...I had her at almost 24. lol My aunt that died when I was 17 helped me name her a month before she died. They share the same middle name. It was my first born girl would be Kaitlyn Dynelle type of thing. Could be partly why I am such a stickler.

I laughed though when I was reading your post and saw Logan before I read Logey I knew that was the nickname. I have heard it before. I think any name can be shortened pretty much. My mom has called me Leash, Lisha(leesha). A friend calls me Ali. lol
I know an Emma. The only thing I could suggest is Emmalin/Emmalynn. I actually love Emmalynn and will use if if I ever am in a place to have a baby and have a girl.
I hope you can find one. I was so glad DD was a DD, we had no clue on boys names.
