Well for my GYN I have a woman and prefer that. For my OB with my first I had a male and I didn't love him, now I have 2 female midwives and the difference is night/day but that could just be midwifery vs. OB and not male vs. female.

Male. To me they're always more polite, sensitive, gentle, and have better bedside manners. I generally think that of all doctors and I've got an extensive medical history so I've seen a lot of doctors.

Re: Do You Prefer A Male Or Female OB?

I have just always been more on the modest side, so I am much more comfortable with a female......even though I know that to doctors and midwives everything is just a body part, its much more comforting to have a woman.

Re: Do You Prefer A Male Or Female OB?

I have had male doctors since I was a kid because thats what my mom prefered. When It was time to pick a doctor for me I just naturally picked male. My primary care physcian took care of my first pregnacy. When I lost him he refered me to a high risk ob for my next pregnancy which happened to be a male. I love him and so does my husband. He is just so caring. The only time I have seen a female ob she was just so rough and I hated it.

Male. For some of the reasons Hilary just said. For some other reasons that I can't quite put my finger on. Something to think about...hmmm

I prefer a Midwife and it doesn't matter what gender. However, most Midwives here are female.

Re: Do You Prefer A Male Or Female OB?

I have a female ob and I love her!!! I had a horrible experience with a male ob with my first delivery. He pretty much told me after I tore both sides of my vagina walls after dds birth and was swollen double my normal size down there that I needed to s
" stop writhing in pain, you can't hurt that bad." .......then proceeded to shove his fist up my stuff. Yeah. So needless to say I stick with my female ob now.....

Owning a car doesn't mean you know how to work on one.

I have a male OB and he is amazing. I don't think I could handle the 'competition' of having a female lol.

I'm very comfortable with him, he knows a ton and is humorous at the most appropriate times and never inappropriately. He's also just sympathetic enough to let me be emotional but force me not to wallow and be strong (I had a hard time discussing my loss and then this baby's SUA).

There are issues that I take his advice with a grain of salt but that is with every dr I've ever dealt with.
